3 beeps pent Pro wont start.

Post by thewolfe »

3 beeps pent Pro wont start.

I have a friend who has a Pent Pro / 16MB running Win95.

We tried to load Juno and it froze. We shut it down and when we started it up again we get 3 beeps with some time in between each of the 3 beeps.

Couldn't get the case open. It has two "levers" on one side of the case that slide up to release part of the panel but it's holding on at the front or back.

Didn't have time to play w/ it but will be going back. Must be a screw or two involved.

Any ideas about the beeps or anyone have a case like his (from my less than stellar description?

memory or video error.

with the power on self test (post), just 1 beep means everything is ok. mine gives 1 long beep then 3 short beeps when i have a video error.

so maybe it's a memory error. so yeah either way you'll have to get into that case. tin-snips?

Nope. I think you'll have to pull the front of the case off to get inside it after releasing the two other clips.

As to the beep codes: find what make and model your motherboard is, then go to the makers homepage, and locate the beep-codes for that thing. That'll tell you what the problem is. More than likely, all you need to do is re-seat the ram and vid card and all will be well. Image
