SQN LAN Write up
What a weekend!!!!!!
We just said goodbye to Gredel,Lothar,Drakona and Fusion and I must say I was sorry to see this lan end.
It all started friday when Klasher and I finished up the final set up at around 2:30. we tested the network with a few 1v1's and then waited for the arrivals.
First to arrive was Grendel at around 5pm.Along with him he brought as door prizes a set of saitek x-45's, A sidewinder strategic commander, A NIB 3dpro,A Thrustmaster Tactical board, And a Saitek Evo JS. Grendel is one heck of a guy! He was right there if anyone needed help with anything! It was truly a pleasure meeting him.
At around 11:30 PM Lothar,Drakona and Fusion made their entrance. after they got set up and running we all decided it was a good time to start playing!
The action Gaming and visiting went on til finally it was Klasher,Grenel and I sitting around shooting the breeze at 5:30 am.
Saturday morning started out with everyone just picking up games and playing whatever. Unbeknownst to the rest of us Lothar, Drakona and Fusion were putting the finishing touches of Porting Lothars D1 level Tetrafusion for D3, Next thing you know we were all playing a new to D3 level and what a fun level it is! I wont spoil it for y'all but i will say Us fusion w****s will love it!
Later in the Afternoon Drakona started doing some oragami and a lil while later she produced a tiny Oragami pyro that now graces the top of my moniter,Later she made a tiny lil phoenix that now resides with Fusion.I have to say I am severly impressed by her talent at Oragami!
We breaked for a BBQ dinner and went straight into some team competition. First was Monsterball in CB. What a fun game that was!Our next game was 4x4 CTF in Stadium. Now this was one hell of a game! 1 hour of intensly fast action. The score stayed close and the fun kept growing and our excitement was heard as Live adio taunts from everyone! the action continued til around midnight.
I finally woke about 9 am and made my way over to the lan room with Fusion there we found Drakona entrenched in a single player game everyone els filtered in and the gaming contnued. at about 2:30 we broke for an early dinner and went back to gaming. we played one last team anarchy game in keg and had one hell of a time.
By 4 pm we had our guests loaded up and ready to go, we lined up for group photo's and said our goodbyes.
I'd like to thank Lothar,Drakona,Fusion, and Grendel for attending our small(8 peeps) lan. As usual the descent peeps are truly great to meet in real life and always make lanning a fun time!
We are definately gonna host another one, and look forward to meeting even more of our Descent friends!
Thanks again to all that came! It definately brought some much needed stress relief for me as well as renewd my intrest in playing Descent!
See y'all in the mines! -Hat
*EDIT* pics will be available soon!

That was a real fun LAN ! Ah, the barbeques.. We definately need to do that again -- I think I could scounge up some more prices !
It was a real pleasure meeting you guys in "real" life, looking forward to the next one.
(P.S. Hatt, I'll try to find a free minute over the weekend, but right now it looks like I won't make it to the fair )

Drakona and Lothar, Thx again for being Transport, and can't wait to here from you about the official release of TetraFusion. My level I was (and am) working on is almost done. I've been to a lot of LANs in a lot of places*, and as I think back over this one... I think it's the best I've ever been to.
Other LANs have had better Descent players, better tourneys, more people, and on down the line... but the reason I go to LANs is to hang out and get to know people. With only 8 people there (and a couple others in and out) we all spent a lot of time talking and hanging out with each other. Hattrick's excellent BBQ meant that we were always eating meals together, too. The camaraderie at this LAN was the best I've ever seen.
We left Seattle around 3:30 on Friday, and got in to Portland about 6:30 to pick up fusion from his house on the water (literally ON the water) and have some dinner at Burger King. The drive down was fun, especially when the 3 of us all ended up singing along to some random Newsboys song (I think it was "Entertaining Angels") from one of fusion's CD's. We got in a little before midnight, and Drakona and I set up our tent and then headed in to set up the computers. We played a bunch of free-for-all games in levels like Athena and Keg Party, and then headed to bed.
Saturday morning, Hattrick and I headed out to the grocery store to pick up materials for the barbeque (I'm still not sure if the pork chops we got came from a pig from one of his litters.) When I got back I found Drakona trying to port my D1 level Tetrafusion into D3. With much help from fusion, we eventually created a pretty decent port, though it needs some minor lighting tweaks and a splash screen before I release it to the public. I spent pretty much the whole rest of the afternoon playing it with anyone I could get to join me, and had a blast. Drakona took a break to make an origami phoenix (she'd actually made the pyro in the car on the way down) and then we had some amazing BBQ (seriously, Hattrick has some sk1llz at the BBQ) and started into the team games. The CTF in Stadium was just insane -- there were no breaks whatsoever. It was constant mayhem.
The next morning Drakona was up early playing single player (she's on level 13 or 14 now) while I slept in. Then we distributed Starscape, which Rover was still playing when we left. We had an afternoon barbeque and played a final Keg Party team game, and then headed out -- far too soon, it seemed, even though it was late enough to put us back into Seattle at 2 AM.
Everyone at the LAN was memorable for some reason or another:
- Grendel was very evenly matched with me. We'd regularly finish a game with the same number of kills on each other, and we'd regularly kill each other at the same time. This meant that pretty much every fight between us was a good one.
- Hattrick made some killer BBQ.
- Fusion spent a lot of the LAN working in D3Edit, and always had a cool-looking room or level he was working on.
- Rover was willing to play just about anything. I wouldn't be surprised to find out he's become a Starscape expert by now.
- Klasher was always popping around the corner and putting a shot in the exact wrong place for me. I'd go for like 5 minutes without seeing him, then all of a sudden he'd pop around the corner and fire that magic homing fusion.
Here's a group pic:

I'd have to agree that the smaller close knit LANS ive been to were also the best...you just interact more with all that are there and its more of an enjoyable experience. Dont get me wrong, Califest was also a blast but the atmosphere was way different. I've been fortunate to have had many many lans here with some great friends. (a lan a month for 2.5 yrs) All were a blast, and save for a minor newbie issue with one Descenter who complained about "lag on LAN and how that BS doesnt happen on PXO", Every single lan was awesome.
Long live D3, I know i'll still be playing a year from now....

LOL! He wasnt that well know in the D3 community, although he's played online as long as i have. He had many aliases of which i dont remember a whole lot. Quick to whine in games and what not and was a stat junkie as well. Most frequently flew as "The Machine" and was a Skybox/Brainsalad/Am Arena Junkie.
He's never posted here either....I dont even think he plays anymore since pxo went down....guess he hasnt figured out how to get in any games...oh well, the BS is too much for him anyway.
