I know it was some time in 1995, probably May, but does anyone remember the exact date?
My thoughts were, it'd be cool if we could pull some strings and get the GameSpy network to do a big celebration of its 10th anniversary.

To be honest, I couldn't care less about GameSpy. They were cool when they first came out but now it's all about money and advertizing.
"Hey Gamespy, We'll give you lots of money if you do a good review of our game!"
Oh, and does this help?

GameFAQs cites it as 02/28/95.

The demo, yes. November 1994, I think.

According to the FAQ at
http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/descent.txt
"What are the differences between the releases of Descent?
The shareware release of Descent was released in December 1994,
and contains the first 7 levels of the game.
The 1.2 version of Shareware Descent was released in Mid March.
The 1.4 version of Shareware Descent was released in May."

I think i picked up the diskette version of D1 at the bargain bin of the Fargo, ND Target somewhere in mid 97 for like $10.
And to think, if I hadnt spend that $10, I wouldnt be here today
I'd be somewhere else...with more money...because the game wouldnt have consumed me....

If this site is correct, today (12/15) is the 10th Anniversary of the initial release of the D1 demo:

Yeah, it was Dec. 1994.. I remember it well.... I had just finished my first year of grad school finals and spent all night thrashing my fellow grad students in the Descent Demo we had downloaded on the school network. Been hooked ever since.

I remember the first time I played Descent..
It came with our IBM Aptiva. All my friends had it, and we would play it until the wee hours of the morning. This was all of course, prior to our exposure to Multiplayer, so we would play single all the time.
Then we tried modem games, and those were a blast - then we had little tourny's and started our Gaming League with a Game "Sechdule".
Then we brought it all to Kali - those were fun times

Destination Saturn is not the same thing... it's the OEM version of D1, where Quartzon was the same for D2.

I got started from the demo that came with my Compaq computer. Seven levels but they were not all the same levels that the regular DI had. I have never seen the last level of the demo anywhere else. I think it was a great level. Does anyone else remember it, and does anyone know where it is avaiable?

Odd, I never replied to this.
DS ran up to Titan Mine IIRC, so 15 levels. Can't remember whether or not it had secret levels but I doubt it.
DQ had the first 8 levels of D2.
