Intelligence report: Iraq prospects bleak

Post by Birdseye »

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/09/16/us.iraq.ap/index.html
"Our committee heard blindly optimistic people from the administration prior to the war and people outside the administration -- what I call the 'dancing in the street crowd,' that we just simply will be greeted with open arms," Lugar said. "The nonsense of all of that is apparent. The lack of planning is apparent."
Ack. Let's hope things get better.

Yea I hate to say itâ?¦but the entire Iraqi thing is pretty much in the hands of the insurgents nowâ?¦and although I understand where they are coming from. I wish they would give democracy a chance. And stop all this BS.

The war may be wrong, but at least we are willing to put a stop to the violence and get on with things.

As far as bad planning goesâ?¦what the heck do you expect from bureaucratsâ?¦:)

There does seem to be a measure of "dancing in the streets" (see Woodchip's post). But the tune is different than expected. :(

I wonder if you all realise this was only one viewpoint?

Well it's one view point held by a collection of those that have the most knowledge of the situation...but yea, only one viewpoint ;)

It looks like the new CIA director learned from his predecessors failure and is making sure his intel doesn't go undelivered or understated.
Good for him.

If you read it the administration is shifting rebuilding funds to security funds. That tells me they agree with the report in the sense that they are facing more resistance than they anticipated and are adjusting.
Good for them.

If we and the administration don't give up just because the going gets rough it could be good for everyone. More than good, it could be historically a moment of greatness. Most politicians, especially in an election year, would back off and go into damage control. Time will tell if Bush has the balls and integrity I think he does.
If they/we do give up then the whole thing was "the wrong war at the wrong time" and we all should have voted for Gore.

The stakes couldn't be any higher than they are right now.
