I actually placed 2nd in the GGL tournament, losing 2 out of 3 to Birdseye, who placed 1st.Descent 3 News wrote:NEW D3L CHAMPION: KAL-EL
Last week Kal-El (aka Sergeant Thorne) became the new D3L Champion after defeating Zero 20-8 in Zero's Home Level, Faded Rose! Kal-El is also famous for placing third in the Global Gaming League's Descent 3 1on1 Alienware championship earlier this year. Congratulations, Kal-El!

Yeah, I whooped him in our BI3 match in the losers bracket. I beat him by 2 or 3 (I think it was 3) in Kata.
GGL wrote:It all came down to this - the last of the 2003 Alienware Playoffs for the Global Gaming League. We've seen some great comebacks, some bitter defeats, and some unlikely final matchups... and the Descent 3 finals would show that anything is possible. With a shiny new Alienware PC up for grabs, the pressure was on for this week's top Descent 3 finalists, and only one would walk away a champion. The Descent 3 competition was fast and unforgiving, as seventh seed (7) Birdseye jumped out to an early lead in his first round match against (2) MOB-PainKiller. After 2 close maps on Burning Indika 3 and Kataclysmica 1.2, Birdseye was able to move on winning 12-10 and 15-9. Birdseye's next two victims were (3) Suncho and (4) SheepShearer, which proved to be close matches until the second map vs Sheepshearer on The Core, where Birdseye provided the shutout 15-0 to move him on to the finals match. Meanwhile in the losers' bracket, top seed (1) Kal-El had to hustle as he had lost his second round match against Sheepshearer. Kal-El then went on a tear beating MOB-PainKiller, (3) Suncho and Sheepshearer whom he had lost to originally. This set up a final between Birdseye and Kal-El. Birdseye only needed 1 series win to wrap things up, while Kal-El needed two. First map was Burning Indika 3, and Birdseye squeaked by winning 13-11. Next was Kal-El's map pick The Core, and his map knowledge helped him to even the series with a score of 15-12. The third map for the rubber match was Kataclysmica 1.2, and it was close all game, but this time Birdseye would not be denied and pulled out a final win of 13-11.
Congratulations to Birdseye our 2003 Alienware Playoff Descent 3 winner. Descent 3 Final Standings:
#1: Birdseye
#2: Kal-El
#3: Sheepshearer
#4: Suncho
Tied for 5th: MOB-Painkiller and Bah
Tied for 7th: Jesusfr3ak4evr and Zero

You get a cookie, now quit sh*tting on my thread. I didn't make any posts about my victories either, and I don't think myself any better for it.kurupt wrote:did i make a post when i won my first IDL UT title? nope. dont think birdseye did either. was i proud? hell yeah. i'm sure he was too.
There is a complete thought somewhere in here. Were you reading one thing and thinking another? I'm getting a little ticked, here.Sergeant Thorne wrote:I didn't start this post to brag, though. I really just wanted that to be corrected. I'm proud of having made 2nd.
the meaning of what i said is this:
being proud of your accomplishments is by no means wrong, but bragging about them (especially on a bulletin board where not many even play descent) is lame. your peers do not brag about their descent accomplishments on a bulletin board full of people who don't play descent, so what gives you the idea that you should?
saying you were just posting to be corrected is like telling someone you stood them up because your shoelace was untied; it just doesn't make any damn sense. you easily could have emailed or private messaged them but instead you went "look at me, i'm the D3L champ! i'm cool!" by posting it here.
its great that you're the D3L champ, but using the cup as an avatar and making posts tooting your own horn is just funny to me, i'm sorry if it offends you that i laugh at others misguided attempts at being cool. its even funnier that you deny any attempt of bragging on your part, when the avatar alone screams it.
i guess i'm just too old school. back when i played alot when someone wanted to say "look at me, i own at descent!" they went out and beat the best players in the game and smiled to themselves. but hey, i've been in your shoes. when i was a preteen and just breaking into the game when i beat someone renowned i posted it in whatever channel anyone would listen to me on.
but i grew up.

I think it's possible, and maybe even probable, that I came off all wrong in starting this topic. As I said above, I really just started it to get that "third" changed on descent3.com; I was hoping whoever does the news updating would see the thread. I wasn't even expecting congratulations, which, on reflecton, is what makes me think that maybe there's something more to this than just Kurupt throwing a disgruntled tantrum--maybe it is my fault. I make no apology for boasts made during this thread, though; they're all true, and it's a small thing (especially coming from someone who doesn't make a habbit of boasting). I didn't defame anyone, and Kurupt has earned a lot more than what I've given him. Kurupt, I don't feel the need to conform myself to any standards of greatness, save my own.
As to my avatar, that's not a boast (not in the way you think, anyway), nor is it an act of presumption to superimpose my symbol over it.

if you truly weren't trying to brag then i'm sorry, but to me it REALLY REALLY REALLY looked like you were. it did to birdseye too:
i mean, i thought about making my avatar a cross maxius when i first saw this thread, better yet three of them, because thats how many i have. you see how that would be interpreted as cocky? birds could make an avatar in ms paint that said 61-0 (or whatever it was) and that would be the equivolent in my book as what you did. its the same even though its different.
edit:
what he said was the same thing that i said, only he used fewer words and was nicer about it. i'm not as nice a guy as birdseyeBirdseye wrote:hehe, its like an ego projection that he had to post it here rather than emailing to ask for a correction

edit:
the descentbb is mostly full of people who dont play the game anymore, but rather used to play the game. they probably dont really give a damn who is the #1 guy on a new-ish ladder in a game they dont play. thats what i meant. i know i dont care who the #1 guy on a Doom3 ladder is.pipsqueak10 wrote:on a bulletin board full of people who don't play descent

Hey guys,
over the past couple years I have grown to miss playing D3 1on1's.
Is there anyone out there that might be willing to set up a couple games with me in the near future? It looks like PXO is now dead and the .cx thing I checked out is almost always close to empty.
I'm sure I'm rusty but it couldn't take that long to shake it off, I figure Plus once I finish up school I might be interested in playing more regularly, if I can just find people to play with...
Peace
[edit]
I just got a really good 1v1 game in tonight and have to say, man d3 is still fun to play. The downside is how addictive it is I'm going to have to try to stay off it for the rest of the fall so I don't fail my last semester, heh!
But I'm still thinking about getting back into it in January if there's people to play. I got my fix tonight, it was fun
