Geme ur review before I build

Post by Matrix »

This is what I'm thinking for my next gaming/OC rig
Will be used in Doom3/HL2/UT2k3/UT2k4/Halo/Farcry

AMD 64 3200+ DTR 1.5v
Thermalright SLK948U w/ AS5
DFI Lanparty UT NF3 250Gb
Corsair XMS Xtra Low Lat 2-2-2-5 (512MBx2)
EVGA GeForce 6800GT
Forton Source 550w

Used along with this existing hardware...

WD 120GB JB 8MB 7200RPM
Maxtor 60GB 2MB 7200RPM
Lite-On CD-RW 40x12x48x
Lite-On DVD+RW LDW-401S
ViewSonic p90f
Antec Full Server Tower + 4x 80MM Antec Case Fans

I might use my Leadtek ti 4400 for a while till my funds recover then I'll get the 6800GT
Also I choose the huge 550w psu because I plan to add a 2nd 16x DVD burner making a total of 3 optical drives along with a 74GB Raptor and maybe a RAID setup

-I herd that the only way to get the XP-120 to make contact with the core of the Mobile cpu is the mod the back plate, is this true? Has anyone has success mounting it without mods?

-If its possible to get a 1.4v Mobile 3200, would it make an OC advantage?
Also I know I have to update the bios on the DFI to fix the reboot problem on the Mobile chips

-Also I need ur guys recommendations for a <30db 92MM CPU fan to go on the SLK948 or if >30db with speed controller (red LED prefered)

So what do you guys think, anything u would recommend changing to achieve maximum OC? :D
Anything overkill/unbalanced?
Could I go with cheaper/slower of anything w/o killing performance? Let me know what you guys think

Hehe. It was looking like such a good system that I was about to ask why you where using a 3200+. Didn't notice it was a mobile till you said you where going to OC. :) I take it there are no Socket 939 mobiles?

As far as fans go, you can search on Newegg by noise level here. For some reason 92s are split into 92 and 90s... Anywho, I've got two of the rheostated Thermaltake 92mms sitting on my desk. Theyre rated for between 17dba(24.6CFM) and 48dba(78.7CFM). I have yet to see if there's any truth to those dba numbers though. If you don't mind paying $18 a fan, there are also the SilentX fans to consider. I've never used those myself either though(big help I am, eh? :D ).

ya I don't think there making mobile 939s right now
I choose 754 cuz I'm a cheap bastard and clock for clock they are only about 2-3% slower then 939
For me itâ??s not worth the money
When 939 starts to pull ahead or 754 losses support I'll just grab a new MB

I probably wouldn't switch to 939 till AMD has PCIe and DDR2 anyway

BTW I switched the ram to OCZ EL 3200 Platinum Rev2

Save money on RAM, buy faster CPU.
