Tiny Computer Case

Post by DCrazy »

Anyone know where I can find a tiny computer case similar to the Compaq T20 thin client? I saw one in person at work today, and the approximately 8" by 8" case would be sweet for a Linux box.

Smallest I've seen are the shuttle mATX cases.

Look on eBay for Netvista cases. Theres a particular model, I have no clue what went in em, but theres a bunch of cases on there that are about 12x15x3 inches. I bought one for $13 shipped and its sitting in the far corner of my desk, housing a Celeron 700 and serving as my print server and dedicated Folding box.

Link to some pics:

I got mine from bargainland-liquidation; they always have a bunch of those available. They come with a 90watt (iirc) PSU, and some of em have red spray paint on em for some reason (it'll mention in the auction if it does. Mine doesnt).

Check out the via eden mini itx cases. There are some here:

And here is a good website for info on them.

They use the slower via processors but depending on what you want to do with them they should work fine.

The only Mini-ITX cases I can find all have floppy/CD drive bays, USB ports, audio jacks, and spaces for FireWire ports on them. I want something with nothing more than a power jack and keyboard/video/mouse connectors. I plan on making a Linux image and burning that to an IDE Flash drive, so no drive bays are necessary.

What the nix box gonna do anyway?

Avder: yes. Just like those Netgear routers. Link?

The box will be a firewall/gateway/cache/filter solution.
