Catalyst 4.9 Troubles

Post by Plague »

AMD 64 3000+
Chaintech VNF-250
1024MB PC4000 RAM
ATI X800 Pro
Windows XP Pro SP2

Installed the Cat 4.9 drivers a few days ago, ATI control center crap and all. Then I noticed that trying to get into video settings by going to Display Settings > Settings > Advanced would give me a BSOD. I thought, "OK, then I have to use the control center thing." I did, and it worked. All my games work fine as well... except one. Running Jedi Knight II gives me a BSOD every time. It didn't on the 4.8s, but it does now. So I decide to reinstall the drivers without the control center stuff. Still gives me a BSOD on getting to the video settings out of the Display Settings. How do they expect those who don't download their control panel to change settings!?

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody had/has this problem, and if it is fixed in the 4.91 hotfix. If not, I'm going back to the 4.8s.

AFAIK the hotfix plugs a nasty memory hole, so I'd guess you'll be better of w/ it..

Whenever I install new drivers, I use Driver Cleaner under safe mode.

Just read the 8.07 was specifically released to solve problems w/ "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic". There you go.
