My Dad finally gave me the ok to download music from the internet. Where is a good site to do it. Kids I know use Itunes but I want to make sure cause I can only have one.

amazon.com (IMO, if yer gonna pay for it, get a hard copy.) You can find most cd's out there used for <$7.00 + shipping = <$10.00.
I did find an article this morning rating the top mp3 sites.

Of course one thing that you have to ask is what music you want. If it's the latest pop fluff or some other CD track you're going to have to go with one of the pay sites these guys mentioned. However, if you just want music in general there's plenty of sites where the artists offer their tracks for free, like www.ampcast.com , www.acidplanet.com , or http://www.ocremix.org/index.php (which specialzes in game soundtrack remixes).
Of course finding good music on the free sites is something completly diffrent...

And, you probably have it on a cd- if that's the case, I highly reccomend using cdex to rip the cds instead of trying to download them: 1) you save the bandwidth, 2) you save yourself from become a target of the RIAA (even though you might legally own the music), 3) you save yourself the hassle of searching for it. And, like Cuda said, there's no doubt that you own the music.Lothar wrote:Bettina:
If you already own a song (say, on tape, record, or CD) it's legal for you to download a copy of it on mp3 without paying, as long as you can find it somewhere. You already own the rights to listen to that song, and it's arbitrary what format you listen to it in.
Sites you have to pay for are often better than buying them physically... you don't get the filler songs on CDs if you don't want them, and you have more choice and cheaper prices than singles.
Of course, when you live in New Zealand like I do you can't use them anyway since they don't take members from outside the States (although iTunes these days works in a few countries in Europe as well). Ah well. For most people here that's not a problem.
