Norton System Works 2004 Pro

Post by AceCombat »

has gotten DA BOOT from my system, after 9 solid years of problem free use, now im fed up with norton, i installed SP2 on my system with nortons approval and guarantee that no issues would arise.......well some very serious ones did.

1. now i cannot auto update my NAV '04, it is not even listed in the LiveUpdate items
2. password manager has lost all its stored passwords and fails to initialize properly
3. Ghost has lost 2 of its 3 ghost files
4. Utilities cannot run speed disk, system doctor and win doctor
5. attempted to re-install NSW04 Pro.....it fails to even uninstall properly
6. Phone and live web support is POFS and not available
7. basically i cant do anything with it so BYE BYE it goes

AVG Scanner has replaced NAV 04

any real good programs you guys can show me, that can replace what i lost with norton.

i already have S&D v1.3, Adaware 5, AVG, Zone Alarm and System Mechanic Commerical V3.8c

fdisk!

Seriously though, Systemworks 2k4 works fine on both of my SP2 machines here. Firefox handles my passwords, never did see a use for speed disk, ghost still works... :?

The reason that 2k4 don't work:

USER ERROR!

something tells me a clean install of SP2 would have NSW work without issue

so, its something else that broke NSW when you installed SP2, rather than NSW.

this might be worth reading.

okay you tell me why Liveupdate only has 2 items to update now, instead of the 26 it did previously?

tell me why NAV fails to update now?

tell me why norton utilities doesnt work now?

tell me why norton ghost some how loses 2 of 5 ghost images?

tell me why when i installed SP2, it DID work until a couple days ago and things just started failing one after the other?

tell me how all this occurred and i havent changed a SINGLE program option in both Windows and NSW 2004 Pro?

tell me why everything else works perfectly except for NSW2004 Pro after my SP2 installation?

tell me why it now says it wont install after i did a proper: Uninstall/reboot/re-install ?

now.......answer all that and ill be happy, no its not user error, i didnt change a god damn thing....it just did it itself and it worked just a few days ago and now it doesnt.....tell me why
this might be worth reading.
i read that before i even touched SP2. i also downloaded the update and it worked for a few days...then it just spontaniously starts failing

i tried Nortons Automatic Service Assistant
i tried Symantec's tech support, all i get is a dead end trail of menu options, i got put on hold for 3 hours, i select one option and the line just goes dead !!!

it was a clean install of SP2, the full download....took me 83 minutes to download everything and another 20-25 mins to install/reboot/setup/operate SP2

It probably something you did, or allowed another program to do, and was totaly unaware of.

Hell, I'd look closely at all the programs you have installed. That system mechanic sounds fishy.

I wouldn't be surprised if, after another clean install of XP SP2(from a slipstreamed CD), and you didn't install system mechanic, everything with NSW would be peachy.

i havent touched anything in system mechanic for a few weeks now, only time i use it is when i need to change some startup items that the regular windows MSCONFIG doesnt show.

i know when anything changes anything from Spybots TeaTimer.exe is always running and it alerts me if a critical registry or startup change has occured, and gives me the option to deny or allow it.

i think AVG is faster at scanning too, now that a full system scan only took 2 hours to search 2 80GB Drives...when NAV 04 took 4 hours

here is the real problem too: i borrowed my friends XP Pro CD....he borrowed the CD aswell from a friend who has moved away across the country.........im asking around anyways to see if i can find another XP Pro CD

USER Error Ace, get off your :x RANT. all your answers are right above in your own statements...... reinstall your shiznit, and do not enable TEA TIMER unless your a friggen noob.

TEA TIMER blocks all installs boot record alterations(NAV) install/unistall boot cleanups....in addition to simple registry alterations associated with spyware/malware from surfing ghey feline porn sites. Leave MS config alone...either unsinstall the offending program or create different USERS for different program sets

system restore doesn't catch everything.

it also presumes that the damage was done after the restore point you used. For all you know, it could've happened just after the last time you used LU.

This thread is why prevention is better than cure, cause cures can kill.

Time to drop IE.

I saved that post to my archives of Ace :x rants.

Go download XP Pro, and use your CD key, or did you loan that out too?

Or how about this.

ROLL IT BACK TO BEFORE YOU INSTALLED SP2?

Oh I'm sorry that would make too much sense

Ace, after 9 years of use, do you mean norton or your PC?

If its your PC - should it even be running XP at all?
The biggest problem I find is idiots putting XP on machines it *shouldn't* be on.
Please post your system specs.

If its norton - well, ★■◆● happens - a clean install probably would work fine.

Back up your files, format, and reinstall.
You should do this at least once every year or two anyway, depending on how clean you keep your system. It gives you an excuse to update all the old drivers in your system too. Alot of people don't realize how slow their system has become or how many problems it *shouldn't* have until they do this.

You have a serious anger problem Ace. You need to learn to bite your tounge, or are you proud of the reputation you are earning here? You shouldn't be. People wouldn't make snide comments like "user error" if you hadn't given them cause to think this over a long period of time. See, you'll probably flame me because of this paragraph, instead of taking the advice I'm giving you (I say that because of your "reputation"). I'm not insulting you here, I'm trying to help you. Take a minute, step back, think about things - when you get mad, don't yell and scream like an idiot - it gets you nowhere but made more fun of. Humility, humbleness and common courtesy will get you alot farther than your current courses of action. Think about it.

Avast (also free) > AVG

And I've heard Kerio is a better free firewall than ZoneAlarm, uses less system resources.

Ace... *shakes head*

Format the damned thing, install XP, install SP2 directly afterwards, then install NSW (this time, just install NAV, NU (and only Speed Disk and Disk Doctor...the other bull★■◆● bloatware programs serve no purpose other than to waste disk space and ★■◆● up windows) and thats it!) and GHOST the ★■◆●ing thing! Burn said image to a CD or DVD and stick it someplace thats dry and shaded. Then install Spybot, but don't enable any of the programs it recommends! Then FFS, stop surfing porn sites with IE. Thats like driving in a buggy race without a seat belt. Sooner or later, you're gonna get hurt. Mozilla is the answer to the IE bull★■◆●. Use IE for windows update and nothing BUT windows update.

That, or send the damn thing back and never touch a computer again.

this is the first time Norton has done anything like this, since ive been using it for over 5 years

problem with that, i dont have a XP Pro CD

i know this already

You have a serious anger problem Ace. You need to learn to bite your tounge, or are you proud of the reputation you are earning here?
got a problem with my anger?

why am i soo angry? because of a bunch load of hypocritical SOB's who flame, bash, taunt, harass, pester and obliviate me for things that they do themselves.

BubbleBitch storms off at me when i flame or troll a post, then he comes to my threads and does the exact same god damn thing! ohhhh but wait, when i call them out for it, i still get bashed!! now WTF is the god damn problem here?

BUBBALOU wrote:ROLL IT BACK TO BEFORE YOU INSTALLED SP2?
cant, SP2 wiped out all the restore point prior to SP2 installation
Asrale wrote:Avast (also free) > AVG

my Zone Alarm is not Free TYVM

Absolute BS CrunchFace, SP2 install prompted you to create a restore point, if you decided to skip it...well then serves you right.. Quit the oh boohoo, have pity on my Ace.

This has nothing to do with SP2.. otherwise it would have occured 3 weeks ago when you installed it!! :P

We just do not want to hold your hand anymore....my replies are blunt. So with that note.

Lil PIA. you start off a thread with a RANT..A$$. You want help, then puckerup and bend over and be humble. Post the symptoms give specs and dont DO SH!Z.
Give feedback..not BS..answer the questions presented to you and take what little help is offered to you.

Hey Ace...better yet, JSTFU and do not post anymore, until you pull the feline out of your rear and get your alleged WinXP_Pro CD

then you tell me why all restore points prior to me installing SP2 are gone now?

i definately would not choose to skip making a restore point. that particular point when i installed SP2 is the farthest one back....prior to that.......nope everything gone.

i dont see how, NSW 2004 Pro worked perfectly since the day i bought it....Jan 12 2004....but after SP2 it started acting weird, then it starts failing to do this, then it fails altogether

Ace, I'm running NSW2k4 on my rig right now and its not giving me the first bit of trouble. If theres something wrong, you did it.

Now that being said, you need to completely uninstall NSW2k4. click me and skip to step 2 and follow the rest. Then re-install and run LU.
