-fastdemo seemed to help but towards the end it started to slow down....
Can someone give me some demo playback troubleshooting tips?
I'm also having some framerate issues, which may be part of the problem, but 100 fps should be adequate.

Have you defraged your hard drive lately? That may affect playback.

Hmm....it's only an 8 meg demo, but I spose it could.
Demos I record don't have this issue.

If someone else records @ 200fps, and you playback @ 100 fps, it will look slow.

is there any way to fix that short of getting 200 fps? I'm sorry for being so n00blish but this is the first time I've dealt w/ demos and had problems...

Maybe try setting your FPS to 200 or reducing the resolution you play at in D3 to get more FPS.

Yes, d3 demo recording is dumber than a very dumb thing. When recording demos, it should only RECORD 50 FPS, and automatically place back at the same speed.
Drop resolution to increase demo playback rate.

D3 is far from the only game that does this when viewing demos someone else recorded or vice versa.
