I bought an el-cheapo DVD rom back about 2 years ago, and it's giving out on me already. It seems to mostly be a heat issue- the drive warms up and just goes bonkers. My CPU is running at 61C, so I'm guessing the case is 40 or so- it isn't an issue what everything getting too hot, it'seither the drive internally getting too hot, or the drive internally not being able to takethe heat. Either way, do you guys know of a good brand name I could look for to replace it? I'm looking for minimum price, but still something that isn't gonna quit really fast. And, I'm looking specifically for something that isn't gonna whine about the temp.
[edit 41 - is that hot? I mean, should I get more fans or something?]
I've had a slot load pioneer drive for like 4 years----still going strong.....also have an 8x lg dvd +-rw burner that i have yet to encounter a problem, save for burning on inferior media.

Thats still hot. Thats over 120F (51C = 125F). It should optimally be down in the 40's. My XP2800 with its stock heatsink idles at around 38 - 40C and peaks at 50. Got any pictures of your computer's innards?
