Insane sci-fi comic

Post by max »

Hey, here it is! The reason I took a break from Descent in the first place ... I just finished my first comic book trade. 6 issues all completely written, hand drawn and inked by myself, over four years of work. I posted it online for free viewing because I hope it will encourage people to vote. Yes, I realize that is strange.

It's about the afterlife being taken over by robots and it has a decidedly political stance (if you vote in the national elections, and Bush is ousted from office, you get to help come up with what happens to the characters.)

WARNING:
This comic is really, really bizarre. I don't know why exactly I started it, but I couldn't stop once I did and now it is here. I apologize for the gratuitous sex, violence and immature humor. It is intentionally a parody of mainstream comics and I purposely built up the entire plot from cliches, spiced with lots of gore and unwarranted swearing, which ended up, surprisingly making it kind of original!

But if you don't mind seeing explosions (guaranteed one fiery explosion in every issue was one of the taglines i had on the first cover) and love or revile Superhero comic cliches and ... uh ... like reading the word 'f***' a lot and seeing people get killed in big bloody messes, and like bizarre senses of humor, stories about the angels and demons and lots and lots of robots and completely off the wall references to old manners of speaking, then maybe you'll enjoy it. Here are some clips from the book. I don't want to ruin the strange twists so I'll include some random jokes ... I sent this sample page for descentbb.net in hopes that you guys would appreciate the humor ...

anyway here she is ... (the site is at www.maxeem.com in case you were curious.) there. now you know more about me than you ever cared to. enjoy!

PS: 'Ex Novo Libris: Poop-Monkey: A Love Story' is my extraneously long, anti-marketing title. The idea of using such a title comes from the notion that the CONTENT of the story is infinitely more important than the title and can in fact trump the title when it comes to readership. On the other hand, if you read the whole thing, you get a little bit of what it's about. Ex Novo Libris makes the book mean it is about being 'free again'

PPS: Can you spot the blatant inclusion of a certain famous spacecraft in issue 5? 8)

thank you! I appreciate it!
what's funny to me is that the comic actually kind of has no audience.

any sort of political point is sort of thrown off by the unecessary swearing and gore, while at the same time the politics turns off readers who would be into the swearing and gore. then the occasional injection of toilet humor ... well i guess it's kind of like South Park only with a consistent sci-fi 'plot' ... i don't know. what have i done?!?
