Which browser do you use and why?

Post by Iceman »

Please no thread crappers here ... Just post your fave and why without dogging the other browsers.

Mozilla/Firefox is friggin awesome! I have been a died in the wool IE guy for years but I am sold on this thing. My favorite thing is the tabbed browsing. Why didn't I switch before?

Yeah, yeah, I know Opera is cool too but I like this one the best so far.

I used Firefox for a while and really liked it, but I went back to the Mozilla suite because it was easier to upgrade from version to version, and I wanted support for e-mail, IRC, and web page design anyway. I also like how you can just enter a search term in the URL bar and press down and Enter to submit it to Google, rather than having the seperate form Firefox has.

I use IE because I've never *ever* had any problems with it, and it's got very nice markup language support.

1. Firefox
2. IE6

I love the tab browsing and the look of the browser of FF, but there is a problem with it yet that seems to stall any downloads when it is the default browser. So I've kept IE6 default and downloads, and FF for general browsing.

firefox still has some problems with certain pages. Lots of Java, flash or any "active media" seems to give FF trouble. ... ahh memories of nutscape. ;)

I use mozilla almost exclusively, and I have it pretty well locked down (it prompts me to accept cookies, for example.) I occasionally use IE for certain sites, but I have it locked down fairly tight too.

If you use IE without setting up security yourself... well, it's kind of like unprotected sex. One questionable website / partner, and you never know what you might catch :P If you tweak the settings, it's not so bad.

IE, for the same reasons as Dedman. I'm not about to install some outside program when the one pre-installed does everything I need it to. I've never had a problem with it, either; frequent updating and a good firewall work wonders :).

You know, it's kind of disturbing that all the IE users use IE simply because it's there and they haven't tried anything else. I could understand if you tried something else and prefered IE, but to never even see what else is available?

It's like the GMC ads say, the other browsers arn't more then you need, they're just more then you're used to.

Just try somethng else. If you don't like it, kill it, make some offerings to apease IE, and rest assured that there really is nothing better then what you've got.:)

1) Internet Explorer: instant-loading. Simple as that. Sometimes you want your Web browser to start in less than 1 second. ;) And it does exactly what it says, lets you browse the Web easily enough.

2) Firefox: I use this more on a site-appropriate basis, like for my banking & credit card accounts, online purchases (whatever the e-commerce site might be), and other sites where I prefer to be more secure (have cookies disabled on Firefox).

Mozilla suite, the browser works almost everywhere, and I like the email client better than eudora and definitely better than outlook. Plus there's a newsreader, an HTML editor, and even a lame but usable IRC client. I have the popup blocker set up to ding each time it blocks a window from coming up, every time I hear that ding I know I've foiled another marketer somewhere...

Firefox:

No popups.

No viruses.

No updating.

I don't have Flash installed, and it doesn't ★■◆● and moan like IE and make me click a messagebox every time a page loads.

No viruses.

No updating.

No banner ads. (Adblock plugin is nice). I can remove individual images, or based on wildcards from a site. (For instance, I blocked DBB avatar folder, so I don't see avatars any more)

No viruses.

No updating.

No viruses.

No updating.

No viruses.

No updating.

No need for a Google bar (You know you can remove that, yes?). Can type it right in the address bar.

No start page getting changed without my permission.

No Favorites getting added without my permission.

Tabbed browsing.

New tab/page buttons.

No viruses.

No updating.

Show pictures for originating site only. (With ability to add exceptions)

Cookies for the originating site only. (With ability to add exceptions)

Better download manager.

No shady Temporary Internet Files cache that takes up 20G of space no matter what you set the option to use.

Select Text: Right-click -> Search Google for "selected text".

Select Text: Right-click -> View Selection Source.

Mozilla suite here, gotta love that little "beep" as it kills yet another popup ad...

And the e-mail program...

And the built-in IRC chat...

And the fact that my homepage can be set to something besides msn.com whether or not there is spyware on my system...

/me repeats testiculese's lines

1) IE comes with a popup blocker in xp sp2 now. It's just as good as Google toolbar's popup blocker

2) How many revisions of firefox have come out in the past year? How many of them have said to uninstall the previous version because they have no idea of what might happen?

3) You can do a straight google search from the address bar in IE. You just have to change it from the default MSN search to do a google search instead. Granted it doesn't like searches that have special characters in them (like dots), but it works just as well.

4) IE has the option to block or ask about third party cookies.

5) Just checked mine, no larger than what I set it at
