I love more than just camping, I love backpacking for several days at a time. Especially with a good down to earth woman :)

I have to agree. The last camping trip i took with a hike started with my buddy and me hiking 6+ hours up Mt. Rainier and he getting hypothermia .. (dumbsh!t)... then me scrambling like a mad-man gathering any combustable material ... not our equipment;) to get some hot soup down his throat. ... good times... heh.

the next day we hiked half-way down the mountain and set up camp for 2 more days. WE would have travelled further up the mt. but is was April and the rest of the trail was covered in oh... 4 feet of snow. much deeper in some places. That and it wasn't offcially open yet, so we couldn't spend a whole lot of time up there. For those in the Washington state area, Mt Rainier- Nisqually river trail on the mt is an awesome hike.

at the SQN LAN, I was a total camper... I'd camp for hours at a time, in the same spot... and then I'd go inside and play video games.

Camping is cool.

I require air conditioning/heat, a PC, and a lack of bugs to be happy. Thus, camping sucks :P.

I don't know, I just can't get into camping. I don't mind hiking somewhere for a day, like going up a mountain and then back down.

Used to hike all over when I lived in Guam. There was tons of jungle and we hike around mountains or waterfalls or caves or whatever.

But when the day is done I wanna come home to a hot shower and my bed.

I grew up in the mountains, lived in the mountains, and have all my life. Therefore, camping = a simple jaunt in the backyard

Seriously, camping is fun!

HaAG and a sleeping bag isn't less cozy? ;) Esp. when it's raining or thundering outside the tent, and you're miles away from anywhere... w00t

Holy Shiz, I never thought I would actually agree 100% with Krom :P Ditto on the shower thing.

The only REAL camping I like to do is in that center tunnel in BI3. Sit in there and soak up missiles and let people have it as they are coming through either door. Or just be a total wuss and chunk Impact Mortars into the room where Birdseye likes to camp in the upper corner near the lower energy center. God camping RULES!!!!! [/sarcasm]

Earlier this month I hiked/climbed a mountain here in VA called Old Rag. It is a little over 3000 feet tall but it was really fun. The over all hike/climb was just short of 8 miles. We are going back again next month. :D

Got a bunch of pics too. Really great view of the valley.

I just climbed the local 14'er a few weekends ago, ascended from 7,000 feet where I live to 14,000+ feet over 12 miles. 12 miles isn't that much, but even being accustomed to altitude, once you get past 11,000 or so you really start slowing down :)

One of the best places I ever hiked was Big Sur. Hitched hiked up from Camp Pendleton and spent a long weekend there. The trees were something else as were the tributary streams feeding into the Big Sur river. Found one where there was a small waterfall that spilled into a small hollow that was just big enough to stand in and cool off. Often thought what a great place to share with a young lady (alas I was alone). Such are the memories this thread brings up.

Man, ain't that the truth? Back when I was a competitive swimmer (8 hours / week) in Denver and my lungs were in tip-top shape, hiking around up near Loveland Pass (on the divide, 12k feet) was nearly impossible.
