Word/Excel 2002 locks when in the "Open" dialog.

Post by JMEaT »

I was helping a friend with this problem, and was able to recreate it on my PC as well. When in the open dialog and clicking on the drop down arrow the program will lock up. A few clicks around the screen will cause the program to stop responding.

After about ten seconds or so the application will continue on my PC, but not on my friend's. It will stay locked up indefinitely.

I thought maybe it was a network drive or a bad hard drive or CD-ROM causing explorer to go crazy trying to figure out what the device was but there are no discs in the drives or mapped network drives.

At any rate, I was hoping someone else had heard of this problem and had a fix! Thanks. :)

I've seen this many times. The only solution I've known is that when you click the drop down menu, stop everything else and don't move the mouse until the list appears.

That definitely happens with bad network drives, so you weren't wrong in guessing that. Check device manager for any misbehaving disk drives.

Are you trying to say there is something wrong with being on a sugar rush? And I'm still a kid at heart.
