Post by KtheC' »

I am looking to purchase an internal DVD burner for my computer. Can anyone offer suggestions as to what a good model is?
Thanks

Bah... 2 months after I get my DVD burner they double the speed on me. At least I got a dual layer drive.

edit

today only, NEC 3500a 70.99 shipped

As far as the LiteOn's, I keep hearing bad things about the DVD burners they make. I love the CD-RW drives I have from them, but I avoid the DVDr units

i disagree entirely, Liteon is made by pioneer, and i sell there stuff everyday. They are actually pretty reliable units, atleast from my personal experiance. There 16X dual format, dual Layer drive is $130 @ my store.

You're aloud to disagree.

However, you are wrong about LiteOn. LiteOn is the manufacturer. In fact, they are globally #3 (#1 in Taiwan) in optical drive production following Hitachi-LG Data Storage (HLDS) and Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology (TSST) respectively. BenQ followed LiteOn IT for fourth place in global production.

Don't believe everything you hear in your shop :P

LiteOn IT confirms this on their own page:
http://www.liteonit.com/common/english/ ... teonit.htm

(LiteOn IT is a Taiwan-based firm doing most of it's manufacturing in Shenzhen, China)

I bought myself one of these a few weeks ago for AUD$149:

http://www.pioneeraus.com.au/computer/d ... rs/dvr108/

16x +/-R, 4x +/-RW, 4x DL

It can even burn "selected" media faster than it's rated speed though I haven't managed to test that yet.

It's a little weaker in the CD burning area then my old LiteOn drive (32X wite speed instead of 48 and no mount rainier support) but the difference is negligable.

Been happy with my 4X Lite-On DVD+/-RW drive, but I don't exactly stress it. *shrug*
