Translators ... 1 easy step to be mis-understood

Post by Duper »

I decided to try out a translator. (www.freetranslator.com) its the one babblefish uses. Anyways. I copied a peice off of a German BB and dropped it into the translator. This is the text:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is what I got from the translator:
"Am I to write could be incorporated gives just at the same time a characteristic little the cent- (similar) little game now it to the row robot it a tool with which one can D1/D2-Roboter to D3-OOF converting? Did until now I find only some robots
in the Truespace-format on the cent-network. com and was able to convert gives this I to 3ds it a converter 3ds->oof? Did Bluntslide construct the Class in its level 1 drill itself? and Texturiert? Is there also converter for D1/D2 level? That
have not much desire everyone themselves to write in partially incomplete specs"

I guess you get what you pay for. :P

The main problems with text translators like that are that they do a literal translation rather than an idiomatic translation, meaning they just change the words from one langaue to the other languages equivalent word; and they cant interperet "slang".

A transliteration? That's lame. I would think that they would take grammar into account. I mean, if they can write fairly accurate grammar rules for MS Word I would think that it wouldn't be all that difficult to do the same for a translator.

Keep your pants on. In just a couple of years, you'll have true idiomatic,on-the-fly, real voice translators which do as good a job as the translators in the UN.

A couple of years later you'll be able to stick it in your ear... ;)

Babelfish sucks. Period. Use Google at *least*.

Though speech-speech translators are completely possible today, just not idiomatic. Speech->Text, Translate Text, Text->Speech :)

sounds like the guy wants a program that can convert the robot models from D1 and D2 format to D3 format so he can import them into his D3 map or whatever.

he's also asking if anyone knows if Bluntside did something like this, or just remodeled the robots for D3 starting from scratch (coz he doens't really want to do this).

Funny as hell :)

The guy is writing a small Descent-ish game and it's now time to add some robots. He's asking for tools to convert D1/D2 robots into D3's oof format, 3DS to oof and D1/2 to D3 level converters.

Why don't we all just learn German? It would be sooo much simpler than trying to learn some weird, twisted form of english that only a computer can create.

Actually, just prior to the civil war, America came within one vote of speaking German.

Apperantly, the German community in america was so large that there as many German speaking citizens as there were English (kinda like in southern California) ;)
