Sod off Bushy Boy
Well here's one thing that is getting my blood steamed:
"President Bush yesterday moved aggressively to resurrect his plan to relax rules against illegal immigration, a move bound to anger conservatives just days after they helped re-elect him."
All these illeagal have the opportunity to apply for legal status by either getting a temporary work permit or applying to immigrate. I say when we catch these illegals we should ship em over to Iraq or Sudan. Maybe they can free load over there.
O.K. liberal weenii's, go ahead and tell me how Bush's plan is "humanitarian" and shows a good social consciousness. Perhaps this is the unifying gesture the democratic dorks are looking for. Who knows.

I really shouldn't be talking, because I have a personal interest in this matter, but...
I have a near relation who's Hispanic. His parents immigrated illegally when he was about 6-7, taking him with them. Thus, he is an illegal immigrant. He has lived basically his whole life here, been educated here, speaks almost perfect english, and has married a legal citizen and has 3 kids. Nevertheless, the INS has classified him as "illegal", and he is now in fear of being caught and deported. Yes, away from his wife and kids. And no, there would be absolutely no chance of him returning until at least a two year waiting period, while his wife and kids, none of which speak spanish, would be left alone in the states.
To top things off, if the INS deports him, he has to wait a year before re-applying to get into the States, whereas if he goes back of his own accord and asks to come into the states legally, he faces a two year waiting period. Talk about screw-ups.
This relation holds a high position in a construction office, and is thinking about starting his own (legal) business.
55,000 people a year are let into the states as new citizens. They can't have any physical defects, even if it's something as small as flat feet. There's a waiting list for visas for something on the order of 10 years. Since my relative had immigrated illegally, if he wanted to get on the waiting list there would be a two-year wait behind other people in the same situation, after which he *MIGHT* be allowed to enter the states to go back to his wife and kids.
If Bush wants to do something about screw-ups like this, that's fine by me.

Here's the problem. Where do we wind up enforcing this? So we twang frog magic twanger and make 10 million illegals...legal. Great. Now what happens? 20 million people figure it is alright to smuggle themselves in over the next 10 years and we wind up making them legal? Hell, we might as well dissolve INS and save the tax payer some money.
In all honesty a proper back round check should be all thats needed for a green card. Give them...well lets say...5 years to adjust and fit in, in order to apply for peranant status. Who gives a poop about any more than that. More workers = more tax money collected. Besides, they may be really really cute Old fat men need there cheap thrills.
Yep, this whole immigration thing is seriously broken. People who try to use the system either may be denied access, or given a visa (but not a work visa, so they can't legally work here), while those that jump the border end up living and working here without any sort of penalties.
I'm not saying, "Take all the damn Mexicans back where they came from," just we need to rework this whole thing so if they really want to live here, they have an option to do it legally (make the system work smoother and more quickly so everybody has a decent chance, instead of this backwards system that hurts those trying legally and rewards those who come illegaly).
