Media player recommendations?
I'm using Winamp 5, but it is starting to annoy me, and since it is now officially dead - it's time to switch.
Because I have around 5000 MP3s now, I'm finding it increasingly difficult to maintain my playlists, and to remember what songs are what. A few things in Winamp are now bugging me greatly:
1) I want to be able to focus on the playlist, and then hit a KB letter, to locate the playlist to that section of the list - just like Windows Explorer does.
2) I want to be able to search for strings in both the file name and the ID3 tags inside the files.
3) Some decent visualisation software. I'm very very partial to MilkDrop for Winamp - that rocks! It's about the only reason I still use Winamp.
4) It's gotta allow me to queue songs for playing after the current one.
5) It should display the genre of the music, and allow me to sort by that tag value.
6) It should allow ID3 editing, and preferably some batch-processing power. Ideally it'll let me create ID3 tags from the file name. (I record a lot of vinyl to MP3)
I'm prepared to try anything, so feel free to toss out some names and some URLs. I figure it's worth trying 'em all out since it's been years.
Thanks people.

Well, I have so many songs, and so many playlists, it is often difficult to locate a specific song in the playlist without scrolling - which I despise.
I feel like there's a lot of useful features which are missing from Winamp, and there's now no chance of ever getting those features.... so, it must be time to move to some software in development, which has a future, and will develop a following.
I'm looking for the Firefox of MP3 players here.

I haven't used it in years, but last I remember Sonique was pretty cool.

as long as you archive your music by type/artist/album in folders accordingly, then life will be so easy. Right-Click your start button/properties/start menu/customize/advanced tab/My Music/Display as Menu
Now if you hover on My Music on the Start Menu, it opens your type folders, then you can drill right down to the nitty gritty. I also keep in the music folder a Playlist folder, so I can drill right into that if I want to

"D:\Media\MP3\Descent Music"
most of my music is in a folder arrangment this deep. Movies, midi's, wav's, pix. It's all catagorized.
Sux to be you tho. 5000 mp3's?? good grief. get a broom. or rather a gernade.
Currently Listening to: D:\MP3\S\Stabbing Westward - Wither Blister Burn and Peel\Stabbing Westward - Falls Apart.mp3
Full List length: 3950 tracks, with about 500 in my new music folder that I have yet to add. I never have any trouble finding anything thats been sorted and added to my mp3 folder tree.
5000 files in ONE folder? Damn, you kiwis are backwards.

try foobar2k.
I mention foobar2k because of its mass-tagger, which will put your music into folders which ever way you want. guess tags from file names, guess info from other tags.
It has a nice database feature.
