Still nope and nope. You guys are going to be slapping your heads over this one. Another clue: It was sometimes armed with 2 .50's.

Nope again. Flip, not sure if earlier models had wood frames but the later ones appear not to.

Country of Origin? Fixed Wing? How many Engines? Piston or Jet?

Hmmm, twin 50s, two different models, classic enduring design (whatever the heck *that* means), troop transport...

I would'a guessed the Mosquito, 'cause it was wooden, but that's been overruled....

Another hint: Think of Bob Seger singing, "She had points of her own...way up high", when you look at the 2 engines she proudly wore.

You got it Sarge. I always liked the low waisted, buxom front end of that plane. For a aircraft that was planned on being scrapped early on, it certainly proved itself over the years. During the Guadalcanal phase of WW2 the Black Cat played with with the Jap convoys trying to supply their troops. The PBY was one of the most versatile aircraft of the war.

Cats are cool - I always thought it would be fun to make a long, lazy trip around the world in a flying boat.
