Subway Dancer is:
- not a horrible level in terms of layout. Decent interconnection, some good dogfight-type rooms, and some tunnels.
- not a great level in terms of layout, either (unlike Minerva). There aren't really any significant ratty areas.
- a pretty bad weapons mod. Cyclones are now these nasty acid-smart-homer-napalm things that are fairly easy to get kills with. There are countermeasures that are basically rapid-fire slow super-homers (generally referred to as "a$$ missiles"). Concussions have been turned into rapid-fire mini-frags. Megas are now these slow balloon-lookin' things that just keep chasing you until you find a corner. The main strategy in Subway is to run away and chuck overpowered missiles at anything that moves.
- about the same collection of talent as you'd expect in the average Minerva game (a few medium-good pilots, and mostly pretty weak pilots), with a similar number of "this is the only level I play" pilots.
What's good about it?
- if you just want to make lots of big explosions and don't care one bit about actual piloting skills, this is the place to be. So if you're in an altered mental state (high, drunk, post-sex euphoria, sleep deprived, etc.) where you'll just laugh at everything, Subway isn't so bad.
It's not like the Minerva of D3 (Minerva was actually a decent level, though quite overplayed.) It's more like Get Mad or your average Lobber level.

Please don't throw that distinction around so liberally! Few levels deserve the title of being compared to that infamous level born of flat faces, no lighting, and the most hideous texturing scheme Descent 3 could possibly do without crashing.Lothar wrote:It's more like Get Mad
That said, there's not a whole lot redeeming about Subway Dancer. But I could say the same thing about Abend or the many other hideous levels that are inexplicably popular while superior levels by OtherOne and Nirvana go totally ignored...

has not beeing played much...
I wonder what all the people care about such a "bad level". If it was really that bad there would be no reason to talk about, or?
I don't like the level myself. Actually I dislike almost all weapon-mod levels except Blown Starship. But this is subjective. If people like it, and it motivates people to play, it is just great. I see people here that are really de-motivating people to stay in this community or play this game - why aren't here 1000 topics against THEM?
I don't get it...
Ah, but alas, very little dog-fighting goes on in those dog-fighting rooms. I got a few good laughs reading/posting in the SD threads, and watching Dancerites moth fusion in there, but now I'm on to better, more gratifying things, like course work.not a horrible level in terms of layout. Decent interconnection, some good dogfight-type rooms, and some tunnels
