It's Scotch, I believe. See Robert Burns's full version of "Auld Lang Syne" (the original poem) or his "To a Mouse" for more examples.

its traditional song sung @ new years to say... "everything that ha shappend, it's happend, and may or may not have it's silver lining, but fo now it's a time of celebration and here's to a hope of moving on and up"

something like that- basically i'd say it means.. "★■◆● all our past crimes, its done now, so now its time to party and cheer the hell up, maye peace and love prevail". :)

Well, H.D. isn't it from a poem by auld Bobby Burns?

Didja know that my lovely young sheepdog, Nell is a Scot? Her mum's sis was on the Scottish team to the International a couple of years ago and her Grandda was the winner of the International Supreme.

Here she be: Darn I can't remember how to post pics here! :(

and:

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

Sorry Jmeat.. no egg nog here.. wednesday...

Heck, I just eat a lot of party food. Of course, the next day, another unavoidable type of "cleansing" usually takes place. :P

Here is the full version (I think). A bit of a challenge to read but pretty cool none the less. ..hehe but being Scottish, I'm just a little bias. ;)
Auld Lang Syne (Original)

Should auld acquaintance be forqot,
Tho' they return with scars?
These are a noble hero's lot,
Obtain'd in glorious wars;
Welcome, my Varo, to my breast,
Thy arms about me twine,
And make me once again as blest,
As I was lang syne.

O'er moor and dale with your gay friend
You may pursue the chase,
And after a blythe bottle end
AII cares in my embrace.
And in a vacant rainy day
You shall be wholly mine:
We'll make the hours run smooth away
And laugh at lang syne.
Shall Monarchy be quite forgot,
And of it no more heard?
Antiquity be razed about
And slav'ry put in stead?
Is Scotsman's blood now grown so cold,
The valor of their mind,
That they can never once reflect
On old lang syne?
And the full traditional:
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?
And days of auld lang syne, my dear,
And days of auld lang syne.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
And days of auld lang syne?

We twa hae run aboot the braes
And pu'd the gowans fine.
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld lang syne.
Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne,
We've wandered mony a weary foot,
Sin' auld ang syne.
We twa hae sported i' the burn,
From morning sun till dine,
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

Sin' auld lang syne, my dear,
Sin' auld lang syne.
But seas between us braid hae roared
Sin' auld lang syne.

And ther's a hand, my trusty friend,
And gie's a hand o' thine;
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
For auld lang syne,
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet,
For auld lang syne.
I'm not sure about the top one, but the bit of reading I've done has shown that this song has changed quite a bit since the 1600 from where it came... hey iot's on the net.. what's not to believe?? :)

you can always trust Egg Nog
