ISP is cable....using bsfr41 router to split connection with three PCs.
Here's the problem:
Pings are good, gameplay is good, upload is good, however, anything clicked on ie: download of latest nvidia drivers at nvidia.com doesnt work. When i say doesnt work i mean the window almost never pops up so u can open save etc. If I am lucky enuff to have that window pop up, download speeds are terrible and in some cases non-existant. My DL rate is capable of 400K/sec however i am seeing under 10 if i get any at all.
I've already scanned for viruses, spyware and whatnot....also reset browser settings to defaults...as well as the defaults reset on the BFSR41.
Any idea what gives? its not jsut one of the PC's its 2of the three (3rd hnot been tested, belongs to roomie)
Mobi...that was just an example...it happens when i click a link to any download.
I tested the nvidia one specifically this morning...no go here at home but at work 15 min later was breezing down at my works max dl rate.
Sorry..forgot to mention that---both pc's are Using WinXP Pro, with IE as the browser...my pc has sp2 on it---the other doesnt...both have the same issues.
The V3's have so many problems... I have a V2 which works flawlessly, but the V3's are just plagued with problems, including incompatibility with Sharkfin cable modems. In fact, this happened to my friend not too long ago (I'm too lazy to search for the thread I posted here), where he could download web pages just fine but every 15 minutes, like clockwork, all the computers in the house would get disconnected from AIM. We replaced his wireless Linksys router with a wired one, and the same thing happened. Eventually we noticed by repeatedly failing speed tests that downloading any file over something like 1 MB in size overflowed and crashed the router, and running AIM and surfing the web would surpass that limit every so often. Turns out the BEFSR41 V3 he was using was incompatible with his Sharkfin. Solution? Netgear router.
The V3 has worked great from the day i got it. This not being able to get a dl from a link on said site is a recent developement however. I'd like to be relatively sure its ISP related before i call and ★■◆●.
***NOTE*** Sporadic noise/distubance lines on hte cable tv (on ALL) channels has been happening as well recently.
Call your cable company and have them run a line quality test. Also, try replacing the splitter that splits the coax up for your TV's and cable modems. The interference happened to me constantly on low-end channels (2 and 4); turned out that the splitter was faulty and was muddling up the signal.
BAAL wrote:could line noise/interference cause a dl link not to activate tho? I would expect slow transfer rates but ti not working at all is a bit weird.
Interferance would reduce the xfer rate due to increased packet resends, and mostly likely its cause the link to timeout.
Thanks for all the suggestions guys...looks like it was an issue with the besfr41. I checked it last night and it was very hot....overheated perhaps. moved it to a better location after powering it off overnight...allseems fine this morning.
It is nestled into my entertainment centre...think i may have moved it when checking wires etc sometime before. It was sitting on top of a digital cable tv reciever and as such was hot to the touch.
