Add a captcha to the registration process.

A CAPTCHA test is a program that can generate and grade tests that:

- Most humans can pass.
- Current computer programs can't pass.

M'kay?

Now, they may post messages with links to another site... and merely having a profile (with a link to their site) is what they might be after. Well, who knows?

Good luck.

I had the same exact problem with my phpbb forum -> www.computerbb.org

In the contrib directory there is a verification mod that produces a few random letters and numbers in a jpg or gif and the registering user has to type them in.

By installing and activating that you can stop all the bots, worked for me.

You should also be able to ban all *.ru addresses...
