DVI Pins

So I wanted to hook up a second monitor to my GeForce FX 5200. So I buy a DVI-VGA convertor, so I can use two VGA monitors with it. However, the port on the back of my card isn't really a DVI... it's a DVI minus four pins. Listed as a DVI on the website and everything.... just.. not one.

On a DVI port there's a "long pin" on the right as compared to all the other square pins. THere are two more square pins both above and below that long pin.

The things indicated as - and * in that diagram above don't exist on the back of my video card. Basically my question is this... is it feasible to poke them into the card? I don't want to break the pins off on my convertor....

No.

Why, those pins that are missing on your card are the analog VGA signal, you could poke them in, you'd get no singal.

its not a DVI-VGA convertor, more of a pass-thru adapter...

So you're saying the FX5200 is incapable of analog video through the DVI port?

Most cards come with a DVI -> VGA adapter, so the fact that yours didn't probably also would suggest that.

Yeah it came packaged with my computer (stupid Vaio).

Any other way to have dual screens without buying a new video card?

You could get a new monitor instead, one with DVI input. I think some LCD screens have this, I have an LCD projector that has DVI digital input.

You don't need to buy a new video card at all if you have any old PCI card lying around that you can throw in to run in addition to your AGP Geforce.

Open your PC, get the numbers off of both sides of the video card (no matter how obscure) and any name that may be printed and post them here. If you have to remove the card, do so. Just do everything in reverse to put it back in

I'd guess that it's just a diffrent kind of DVI then the standard DVI-I. Look at these and see which one it is, then try to find a pass-through for your type of DVI.

It sounds like you're describing a DVI-D link.
