Went to the concert tonight. I was open-mouthed from start to end. The beginning of it was amazing, and the light show to accompany the playing was amazing. Felicia was right, they know how to use lights in a volume space, not just lighting people on the stage, but using light all over the freakin arena. We had seats in the far back corner, and I thought it was going to suck, but I actually think I liked it better that way. You were able to see everything that was going on with the lights, and if you wanted a close up of the singers, you could just use binoculars.
Being in lighting in Theater Production now, I was amazed at what they had in the way of that. I took the time to try to add it all up, just in lighting instruments they had around two million invested, that's not saying anything for the lighting board, wiring, or rigging.
Plus I thought all the lights for the show were automated, but apparently not. Being in the corner, I also had a good view of the sound and lighting guys. The lighting guy was pounding away on that board like it was a piano or something. If there was such a thing as a piano of lights, then this guy was Bach. Amazing "playing".
Oh, yeah, the music was awesome too
I don't know how many of you have listened to Trans Siberian Orchestra, but if you haven't, go out and buy a CD. Right now. I happen to like Christmas Eve and Other Stories (which was what the first half of the concert was about) the best, that's what I'd recommend.
