I think if we all grew up knowing that life was all just survival of the fittest and that any "rules" we are taught are only 'rules' because a stronger man said so then your notion of the masses seeking peaceful co-existance would be nothing but a dream.
At the same time I believe the common threads in all major religions ie; thou shall not kill...thou shall not steal, etc. etc. are the result of the masses attempting to achieve that very goal.
The ones who use religion to do evil are in the minority but they get all the press. The ones who tame themselves in search of spirituality are the silent majority.

Happy Bill of Rights Day. In response to the topic, I'd take the Bill of Rights, but in today's America, it's practically worthless, as all the amendments in it have been eviscerated. I know the guy is blatantly blaming Bush, but face it -- even if it was Gore who won in 2000 and Kerry in 2004, the same assault would have happened, but probably on a worse scale, especially for the Second Amendment.

I don't know about that. If the buddhists were in charge they would give us neither, anarchy or law based on christianity. Of course their way wouldn't hold back a few angry houswives let alone an invading army, but that's another thread altogetherSirius wrote:Without the Ten Commandments, or at least some set of laws enforcing them, you'd just have anarchy.
More like the fact that if everyone followed the ten commandments, there would be no need to bear arms. People in government, being forced to follow the rules of not coveting, etc, would have no possible way of oppressing the people. Heck, there wouldn't even really need to BE a government; if people would just behave themselves.
But that would never happen...now would it?Stryker wrote:More like the fact that if everyone followed the ten commandments, there would be no need to bear arms. Only after the second coming of the Messiah and then you wouldn't need the TC or the BOR cuz the Gordian Knot would just be sliced clean through what with all the good being raised and something permanently terrible happening to the godless and the sinful that would just take them out of the picture.
I recommend Under the Banner of Heaven for anyone interested in an entertaining albeit scary trip through millenial thinking.
