CD-Rom Trouble

Post by Duper »

For some reason, my machine has stopped reading disks that are put in after boot.

In order to for the puter to see the disk, I need to reboot with the disk in the drive.

Anyone else have this trouble and how do I fix this? I did a search and found nothing.

I'm running XP Pro with SP2.

This just started happening, nothing really new installed. Just AVG.

Never had that problem. I'd try reinstalling any software/drivers associated with the drive...

Remember folks, the more it moves the higher the failure rate!!

Good sign it's failing, was this driver particular to media types before(aka not reading CD-R media burned at higher than 4X) Duper

Usually with CD-ROMs & DVD-ROMs, and indicator of failure is the readablitity of media types. This is usually caused by dirty lens or misalignment of read-head. Newer drives are not like those of the past that lasted forever and cost 4-6x's as much

Go and Buy your self a LiteOn .. replacement Duper

You might want to check the is the Device Manager, if it says error on the device, the AV program might have corrupted your CDRW dll's.

Easy double verification, is to look at drives shown in My Computer. If your optical drives in question is not present.. there is a quick fix for it without reformating your computer.

Programs that have caused this in the past, that I am aware of

Roxio 5 Lite/OEM uninstallation routine
Wavelab 5.1 installation
