Athlon 64 3500 showing as 2.3 ghz...

Post by BigSlideHimself »

This is my first AMD install. It's an Athlon 64 3500+, and when I go to system properties, it recognizes it as that chip, but says its only going at 2.3 Ghz. Is this normal for amds?

Yes. "3500+" is the Performance Rating, the actual clock speed is 2.3GHz.

I hardly think "sucking people in" is the correct term. The AMD64 architecture is super efficient compared to the monster pipeline action of the P4 cores. 2300MHz is more than enough to slaughter a P4 @ 3.8 GHz in most gaming situations, and in many apps as well.

Good buying bro - you got a good one!

Yeah even in the last issue of Maximum PC I was just reading they said the FX-55 even slaughtered their Dream Machines P4 @3.97ghz in most cases, even Photoshop
