Handshake

Post by woodchip »

Watching the news this morning I see Jimmy "Peanuts" Carter shaking Mahmoud Abbas's hand, annointing the Abbas as the new Palastianin as the legitimate leader.
Funny...I didn't see Carter shaking Bush's hand after the last election here.

"Funny...I didn't see Carter shaking Bush's hand"

Thats because Carter has class, and wouldn't shake the hand of a feces flinging chimp.

I'm not saying that Carter doesn't have class; I'm just commenting on Vander's crass comment. From what I've learned about Carter, I don't consider him to be a very good president, regardless of party, but that has no bearing on his character.

"Vander's crass comment."

w00p!

I was shooting for crass, but I was afraid it might have come off gruff or crude. ;)

I'm not old enough to remember Carter's administration, but I do know that he is the only president that has done anything worth while after his term. Look at him, with his wealth and power he starts Habitat for Humanity, stuff like that. He truly believes in caring for people, I don't see Bush or Clinton doing that now unless it directly benefits them, and I doubt Bush Jr will do anything either.

Carter was regarded as a poor president because he was too weak, I see him as being too nice. He was not cut out to be a hardline politician, hence, how he lost his re-election to a movie star that could work a crowd like no one else.

I'm old enough to quite vividly remember the Carter
years. Reagan didn't win because he was a good public speaker (though it helped), he won because Carter reigned over the worst economy short that of the great depression. Inflation was running at 18%+. Seniors on fixed incomes were eating dog food because inflation was eating up their social security income. If the Carter economy were happening today, just imagine what the libs would be doing to Bush.

Thanks Woodchip for the info, like I said, I don't know a lot about his policies and whatnot. I speak highly of him for what he has done since his presidency. He seems to be a real human being, aside from the fact that some don't like his peace ideas.

Wasn't it during the Carter years that to mortage a house, you had around a 20% interest rate?

Zuruck, all those things you like about Carter shows he is a good and decent human being. He should just stay away from politics AFAIC.

I remember the Carter years very well. I remember constantly being afraid of being nuked by the russkies and Jimmy's inability to do anything to make a difference about it. I remember my parents living in fear of my father loosing his job as companies were desparately trimming back to keep from going under. I remember being ashamed that I was an American because of the Jimmy's pitiful foreign policy skills. I remember hearing about the old folks eating the dog food (yes it was true) because groceries had become too expensive. I remember my father complaining that his retirement investments were rapidly becoming worthless. I remember how NOBODY we knew could afford to buy a new house because the interest rates were 22%+.

Now, that said ...

I admire Jimmy Carter. I like Jimmy Carter. I believe Jimmy Carter is a great man and I would be honored to work alongside him in his efforts. Jimmy Carter is a good, honest, respecful, honorable, reverant man and he deserves to be known as such.

Woody hit the nail on the head ...
