Very Slow CD Reading

Post by Plague »

I recently updated my BIOS and I've since found that my CD-ROM read speed is extremely slow. WMP can't even play a CD, and installing something from a CD takes forever and a day. Is there a BIOS setting that may have been changed? Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3000
Chaintech VNF3-250
1GB ADATA PC4000 RAM
Windows XP Pro SP2 (with all aditional updates)
Liteon 52x52x24x16

Any suggestions?

Try resetting BIOS to "optimized defaults".

You might want to do what Merlin says, then go back and see what settings are used for the drive afterward.

Did you check for updated firmware for the drive? Clean the lens recently?

Did both, and either one or both of them fixed the problem. I didn't realize that optical drives had firmware... heh...

I'd say it was the BIOS one as updating the firmware wouldn't make it go faster. But who cares, it works now.
