More earthquakes, yay. New activity in the New Madrid Zone, which had some major earthquakes in 1811-1812 (effects shown here).

Stryker, nothing in that article you posted has any long-term effects on humanity (other than the massive loss of life caused, but that goes without saying.) That's some amazing info, though; it's scary to think of that type of power at work. And yes, we should be worried about asteroids; they can do infinitely more damage than even the largest quake.

Daytime becoming shorter by a few microseconds? That'll have an effect in the long run, more so if we get several of these things. Besides, the chances of an asteroid actually hitting the earth are next to nil.

Wow, and I live right on-top of the fault itself! What's scary is that an earthquake that hit on this fault line made the Mississippi River flow backwards, which later formed Reelfoot Lake.
