To all who were "trying to beat my 1700+ overclock"

It just got a lot harder.

Yesterday I got to thinking about my system, no crashes in months at 200 x 12 = 2.4 GHz, I wonder if it can do 2.5 GHz. I know it can't run 2.6 GHz stable for more then about an hour, but just how high can it go? And why stop with just the CPU, I have some Winbond BH5 RAM in this system, might as well use it right? So after a few hours of testing in memtest 86, I settled on this speed:
Image

The CPU is running at 1.9v, the RAM is running at 2.9v with a latency of 2-2-2-6-T1. The stock speed of the CPU is 1463 MHz, it is currently running 1072 MHz faster or at an overclock of 173.27%.

Now I just need to keep on hammering the system for a week or so to make absolutely sure it's stable.

Yep - it'll run like that for probably 18 months I'd guess. After that, it'll still be running at that speed, but benches will show a marked decrease in performance due to several million transistors being destroyed by Ion Migration within the core.

Hellishly good overclock though - so in 18 months you can replace it - and it won't owe a cent. :)

I seriously doubt that. See, he's watercooled his entire system, and he's got the radiator down in the basement with one of those uber-fast 120mm fans blowing on it (the kind that blow so much air that they sound like a jet engine). I don't think his system has yet to exceed 32C.

It's a $50 cpu and it will be an outdated POS in 18 months anyway. :P

ion migration huh.

it's called 'electron migration' ya dipshit. besides, electron migration is a slow process. takes years for any damage to result.

Anyone heard of an overclocked CPU or vidcard destroyed by electon migration?

Why can't you just shut the f up Mobius? Just for once stuff that pie hole of yours with your dad's p3nis or something.

Uhm... civility guys.

Heard of the 5.25 GHz overclock in late '03 Krom? :)

Nonetheless, sounds like you've pushed this thing quite a way as it is. I wonder how much one can get out of a P3 667...

I've got a FX5900 ultra in this system, it's only mildly overclocked, 480/900 vs 450/850 defaults, I didn't see a point to overclocking the video card further. The motherboard is an Abit NF7-S v2.0, the system is over a year old now.

I believe it's a T-bred "B". I wanted to buy one for myself, but decided to get a Barton 2500+ for $60 which is 1. easier to find, 2. easier to OC even farther and 3. started at a higher speed in the first place(haven't needed to OC from 1.83ghz yet).

And the person that OCed to 5+ Ghz was probably not using any conventional methods of cooling :P
