practically all the ads that have a london number (020) were done by comedian Jimmy Carr, who is best known as a presenter on channnel 4 (UK), for his live show. The show is on DVD at the moment and isn't very good IMHO.

Yeah. The numbers are all one figure short, which makes me think they were planted. Quite good tho.

All the Classified Ads were placed by Jimmy Carr for his stand up stage show (They were all printed in local papers, or placed in shop windows. So they are 'real', but not genuine ads)

Very Funny Though!

They feature on his DVD that was released late 2004.

well yeah of course it was obvious that some of them were planted. but that means they are still real.
and the point of it is that they are still read by unsuspecting newspaper readers who must've got a laugh at them.

"tree falling in the woods" my friend:
if you tell a joke by proxy, and therefore can't see your audience, does anyone laugh?

ooooh yes :)

They were all planted by the same Comedian, so he could use them as joke props in his show. That's almost as bad as Jay Leno's fake headlines.

the DBB is not "his show". yet we still laugh.
this joke has further effects than you are implying.

i've never seen this guy's show, nor will i ever. but the thing is that these props for his show he injected into reallife, so you get these little "leakages" that can be picked up by anyone, you or me, and interpreted on an individual basis. to me it's somewhat poetic, idealistic, an artist doing work that he knows he will never receive credit for. only the hope that someone will spot it outof the blue and take it for what it's worth (a hearty haha). that's just magical.

This is a 100% real entry from The Boston Globe, sometime in November 2003. I ripped it out and scanned it:
