How many fighter aircraft are in a Marine Corps squadron? No, not a trick question...just can't find a link that says how many>

A typical squadron has anywhere between 10-15 aircraft.

Try searching on "order of battle." This may be interesting/helpful: http://www.scramble.nl/usmc.htm

Thanks guys. The only site I since came up with was a vietnam site that listed various VMA's as having 20 planes.

Marine F/A-18 squadrons have 13 aircraft. That falls inline with the Navy when they have to ride our big grey dogs. Helo outfits and transport squadrons very like maybe to 20 for a Helo squadron and 4-10 for the herky birds...

Perhaps the 20 plane squadron listed in my link are due to being land based? Thanks for the input Couver.

VMA in the Vietnam era were most likely A-4 Skyhawks right? Nowadays VMA is the Harrier.

VMA's in Vietnam era were mostly A-4's, A-6's and A-7's

now they are Harrier's and F/A-18's

V = fixed wing
M = Marine corpse
F = Fighter
A = Attack

pffft. What made you assume I was asking only you Ace? I merely posted a question. Man the arrogance smells. Tell ya what, I'll ask another question especially of you Ace. How do you tell the difference between an Alpha model, and a Charlie model Hornet at a couple hundred yards. Hint: yes it is visual, there is no scent.

s'co0l. The difference is subtle on the outside. The vertical stabs have antennas at the top and aft. the "A" has 1 antenna and a light. The "C" has 2 antenna and a light. The are "bubbles" that are visible from some distance. The same occurs on both sides of the nose. C's have 2 antennas one above and one below the forward fomation light. A's have but one. Those are the external differences of the A and C Hornets.

BBbzzzz close but no cigar....

Plus on a non A+ Model and C's lot 12 and up (You only asked for the "A's")the antenna's for the radios are the large swept back ones not the blade like ones found on the A's. Hehehe couldn't resist Pere :)
