That's right, in germany if you're a woman on unemployment and you refuse to work as a prostitute you can lose your benefits.

This world is getting stranger by the minute!
If they can't see the reason for some moral guidelines they are doomed to anarchy.

As a German I'm pretty sure this is not true. But I'll look into it...

okay ... seem's to be like this. Some people *pointed out*, that - since prostitution is legal in Germany now - one could *theoretically* be forced to work as a prostitute or loose the benefits. However, everybody agrees that this is only a theoretical option. It is clear though, that no laws exist (yet!!!) that could prevent this from happening.
For those who can read German, here's the article that was paraphrased in Will's link.

The 25-year old waitress mentioned in Will's article just seems to be an invention to dramatize the situation a little bit.

interesting.
they should tap into anti-religious-descrimination laws to find their excuses for exemptions.
"i will not be a prostitute, my personal morals - which by definition are my RELIGION - prohibits it"

When i got it right, Roid, this was exactly the reason why this theoretical scenario put forward in the first place. Under the new legislation it seems that you could be forced to work even if it violated your belief (or loose the benefits). The prostitution-scenario was put forward to make it all look even more bizarre than it already is.

I'd be willing to bet that the first time this sort of issue gets taken to court, the exception will be promptly be taken care of.

$5 says it was an unhypothesized loophole found by a vindictive brothel operator. Another $15 says its patched up before it can ever be enforced.
