Common & aggrivating Windows networking problem that I h

Post by Top Wop »

I just added a file to a folder with other files that I share on a network. I can regularly copy and read from the other files, but as for the newly added file it says access denied. How can that one damn file have denied access when I can access other files in that same shared folder just fine? And in a folder that I have specifically specified to be shared on the network?

Similarly at work I may add a folder or file to be shared in a network and I get the same error. This happens on all the computers I use. What am I doing wrong and how do I fix this? This happens no matter if I turn on or off simple file sharing.

If im not explaining my problem clearly, its because I am in a fit of rage after having to put up with this illogical problem for the umpteenth time. Thanks Micro$uck. :x

Ok so let me rephrase this.

You have a folder that is already shared.
You copied a file into that folder.
You then try to copy that file from another PC and it gives you an error?

What's the error?
Is the file in use by another app?

The file is added amongst other files in a shared folder. These other files can be accessed. The newly added one cannot and gives an access denied error because I dont have permission. It is not used by any other apps or processes.

This file I had put is on computer number one that contains the shared folder and then from computer number two I try to access the shared files that are stored in number one.

If you don't have permission to that file, thats the problem. It is owned by another person. Either log in as that person on your PC and get it, or have that person log into his PC and then copy the files to YOUR pc.
