Granny, get yer gun out!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4261075.stm
I want HER as MY grandma!
I sympathise severely with this lovely old chick. I suffer from chronic Osteo-arthritis in my left ankle (after almost losing my left foot in 1994 due to a Pots Fracture falling 30 metres down a cliff) and I can use Celebrex at $200 a month, or I can use Pot for around $80 a month, for pain releif. Guess which I take regularly.
For me at least, the pot gets rid of the day-to-day pain, but not the acute variety - so when I am in excruciating agony, I take pot *and* 200mg Celebrex tab. I have reservations about the prescibing of Marijuana for some people - but for many others, it really is a miracle drug which can change people's lives for the better.
Whether drug companies should be allowed to investigate it thoroughly as a pain management drug, and refine the chemicals involved, I can not say - because in my view, a pile of naturally lovely, sticky, purple buds is ALWAYS going to be more attractive than a pill.

what a gem
btw there is a synthetic THC in pill form, Marinol, but it's not as good as the natural thing. Marinol is itself heavily disputed.
it's funny because from the medical tests they classify Marinol as being an extremely safe drug, yet cannabis is supposedly so dangerous.
no drug company will recommend cannabis, since in it's pure form it can't be patented, money can only be made from it in it's patented synthetic "Marinol" form. drug companys didn't want anything to do with Lithium either, same reason - usefulness means nothing, it's only ever about money. ★■◆●ing pigs

i couldn't be high everyday, i've tried it, just doesn't work for me. but i think the fact that marijuana is illegal is just a crock. i'm not like a crusader or anything (starving children are higher on my priority list than drug legalization) but it's just a freakin' outdated notion.
and that doesn't even touch people with chronic pain... strange planet we live on.
