Digicam. Choices Choices!!!

Post by Flabby Chick »

OOOOhhhh!!!! Flabby in the Tech Forum, scary!

The thing is the Mrs has let Flabby have few pennies for his troubles and i'm in the market for one of those digital camera pointing photo thingies.

I'm looking for one that's a point 'n' shoot with attitude, that is, one that can be fully automatic yet if delved into a little deeper it can introduce me to photography a little more serious level.

I've never had a semi-serious camera and thought it was about time i got round to do somthing about it. Zoom is very important to me as i'm surrounded by wildlife, especially at work. I've got 300 to 400 USD to mess around with. So is there anyone out there in DBB land that knows one or two things about the subject that can point me in the right direction.

I've scoured the net by the way and am looking seriously at this Minolta. And i'd love this Panasonic, but it's a bit out of my price range.
www.dpreview.com and www.dcresource.com are places i've been looking at also, if you know of any other places i'd be very greatful to know of them.

Cheers guys.

Those are basically the best review sites I ran across while doing my own search. Canons are well-respected, and were one of the main brands I was looking at. Nikon's up there, as well. (Of course, people hate Sony and I ended up with a 5MP Sony, but hey, it seemed to meet all my needs and quality was really good.)

Can't give much new input since you're basically on the track I went on. Those are some really good sites, with more info than you'd care to know about a variety of cameras. Obviously they can't look at every camera out there, but it's varied enough that you can probably get a good idea of the performance of whatever cameras you're looking at. :)

Also, if you want to compare image quality side-by-side, this is a decent site: http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM

Canon G series

Fully auto with preset modes or fully manual.

I've got the Canon G3 and will eventually get the Canon 20D SLR.
