I just have a simple router that splits my DSl line to two computers (its hardwire by the way, not wireless)....one line goes to my computer (Windows XP) which gets the internet all the time,
the other line goes to my latptop but now my laptop (Windows 98)doesnt get an internet connection anymore. it ran perfectly like my computer is right now, but it still doesnt get the internet when everything's plugged in.
the funny thing is that when i tried to use the cable that i use for my desktop, it still wouldnt get internet. but then i tried it with my dads laptop (Windows XP pro) and the same thing. i cant get my internet to run on anyone else's computer except mine.
I dont really think its internet settings cuz i havent touched them at all in the past 3 years. im terribly confused.

What router?
Does it have activity lights on the front, and does it show the laptop as active when it is plugged in?
if yes to the above, does the router interface software show the laptop as active (ie: DHCP clients table or similar)?
Have you tried:
power cycling the router?
ipconfig /renew (ipcfg + release all,renew all)?
checking the settings on the working computer and duplicating on the non-working computer(s)?
deleting the internet connection on the notebook and setting it up fresh?

its just a microsoft router. dont think it has a name tho..
and when the laptop is plugged in, activity lights show up on the router and on the laptop and it blinks so i know its receiving a connection of some kind.
my router didnt come with software... its more just like plug in the main internet connection line and plug other cables in that connect to other computers
yes ive tried power cycling (if by that you mean turning it on and off repeatedly)
the settings are all the same on both comps
im not sure how to delete an internet and set it back up tho
