Foil, when was the last time any one of these female child abuser cases listed in the link below made the same kind of sensationalistic headlines that the Sandusky case has made in the media, especially the TV media? Do you remember any of them? I sure don't. A couple of these are same sex assault too. And there are probably thousands of cases of this type. They're just as scandalous and no less horrible to the child victims, so why are they just backwater stories?

Didn't I already answer that?
Foil, adding emphasis wrote:the reason the Sandusky case is getting so much attention is not because it was male abuse of males... it's because Sandusky was already well-known and connected to Penn State football, and even more because beloved coach Joe Paterno was fired because of the scandal!
With the exception of notable people (celebrities, sports figures, etc.), these cases are overlooked ("backwater stories", to use your term) by the media universally. The numbers are literally staggering when you see how often this stuff happens, from and against all kinds of people.

To say this again, just to be clear: The media isn't just ignoring abuse cases involving girls/women, it's ignoring virtually all abuse cases. The Sandusky case is the exception (because of its ties to Penn State football and legendary Joe Paterno), not the rule.

Oh, I realize that this type of stuff goes on constantly. My point is that most of it never reaches that critical mass that the mainstream TV media loves to dwell on 24/7, like young college-aged women that go missing or get abducted and adult men caught molesting kids, especially boys. All the other nasty stuff rarely warrants a quickie headline or 2 because the media is looking for that ripe, sensationalistic story that garners the most attention and ratings. It's that fixation that I'm queuing in on and that's just sad, especially for all the other victims of crimes like these. None of these crimes are less important than any other.
