sorry, i forgot to put that in "s , all the bands, the DJ's of 96.7 tHe BuzZ interviewed, they all had positive comments towards Kurt Cobain as being a legend in modern rock of the 90's and today. no im not a local band musician, i wish i was, but im not cut out for that stuff. i do play guitar, bass and drums. i played drums in school band in all three classes: Grade School (5th grade), all through MIddle School and all through high school. i picked up bass when i was 15, and picked up guitar @ 17 and can play all three now very fluently.
There is nothing whatsoever revolutionary or legendary about Kurt Cobain or Nirvana. They were just one of the bands in the Grunge movement. People so easily want to put Nirvana up on a pedestal just because the lead singer shot himself in the face. But damn, what about the other bands that were making moves in Seattle at the same time? Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam/Mother Love Bone/Green River, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. Maybe if all these bands comitted suicide, they'd be legendary, as well.
Now if you want to talk about the roots and influence of Grunge, I'll toss Sonic Youth out there. Revolutionary, they are, young Jedi. But as unconventional and original a band as Sonic Youth is, even they can be said to have ganked ideas from the likes of Velvet Underground, etc. I mean, hell, Even bands like Ministry can be heard mimicked in Grunge music.
Furthermore, get your genres straight, AceCu!\!tflap. Grunge is not metal is not Modern Rock. WTF is modern rock anyway?
Oh and Meaty...damn nice list there.
