Complaining about MD is admitting the other pilot is faster.

Plasma is standard in Keg. Microwave is just unfair, eventhough I use the BP also.
I actually find BP microwave WORSE than MD. If someone starts to use the MD, I'll whip out mine. I have an internal law that says \"do not use the microwave.\" It stings if I do, I swear!

D3 is inherently unfair. Trifusion, MD, microwave, the ship-that-skips, one-hit-kill missiles... as such, it's reasonable for level designers to not necessarily include every gun, and it's reasonable for server hosts to sometimes disable specific guns. But if it's in there and someone is killing you with it, don't whine. ("I think this game would play better if we all voluntarily agreed not to use microwave" is a reasonable suggestion; "I hate trifusion whores" or "mass driver is unfair" is whining.)
I personally think Keg plays well with Microwave. So does Skybox. It makes a nice counterpoint to both trifusion and MD. But then, I don't mind nerfing myself for the sake of fun, so I'll go without it if requested.
I also think Veins plays better without MD, but as I'm in the minority on that opinion, I just have to deal.

I'd love to see someone put up an MD-less Veins game, just to see what it's like. I don't exactly have the best fine aim in the world, and I'd probably rank my MD skill as "barely decent" at best. I use it in Veins because you just about have to, but I feel like it dominates that level way too easily. There's nothing more frustrating than getting smacked silly down the entire length of a hallway and having absolutely no chance to recover your orientation before you're hit again and blown to bits.

We do no-MD Veins from time to time. Just request it from one of the DRH server-ops (me, DwnUndr, Machete_Bug).

Meanwhile, the only suggestion I've seen so far for WNFC this week is SLW (Skin Like Winter), which I haven't played in a while, but sounds good.

Uh... yes it was. Or if not, it was extremely close to instant. Certainly not something you could see coming and dodge; if someone had a bead on you (with a good ping) they were getting the hit.
depending on the distance, it can be near instant hit or it takes a half second to hit.
again: not "instant-hit". Instant hit means the target gets whacked as soon as you pull the trigger regardless of distance. c'mon man, you've been around as long as i have. you should know this stuff.

Really?
I know mercs were not instant. But I thought gauss was. Can someone with source knowledge confirm or deny?

Actually, the guass over a LOOOOOng distance takes some time to hit its target.
Try the D2 version of COD called \"WOD\" (Wheel of death)
I can email it to you. It seems that planetDescent got nuked??

well if you got D2 still kicking around Lothar, fire it up and put it to the test.
and maybe we can play some too.
------
In COD, if you put your butt to the wall and aim at a robot that you can just see, it would take at least a second or two to hit.

Gauss and Vulcan were both non-instant. They were fast enough that in most levels they were effectively instant, but if you fired off a round down any of the larger spaces in D2 SP you could easily spot the delay.

Exactly Krom, and was my point really. It takes some huge distances to see that time delay. In most Multi levels (in d2)you rarely shoot over 30 or 40 units. In WOD, you are shooting something like 200.
Conversly, in COD D3, MD are still nearly instant hit even at 1300 units which is a about half way across the maxiumum playing field in D3.

HERE is a copy of Wheel-O-Death. It's COD2 with bots. The original CoD 2 was meant a multiplayer map put together by Thumb. You can grab a gauss in the center.

Skin Like Winter

I'll probably be there as DRat Eater (That's both Drat Eater and Rat Eater.)
I have a running joke on some servers where all the incredibly skilled players make me feel like an Internal Tactical Droid (from D2), so expect some unusual audio taunts.

Good game guys.
I loved the level.
I was Insanity Joe, DRat Eater, and FoxCannon. My brother was Your Computer and FishBlaster. We were playing 2 rooms away from each other
.

I missed most of it because my internet was FUBAR. And I was rocking for the couple of times that I was there!
Had fun for the few minutes that I was there anyway.

I just went back there for a few minutes as \"some random raccoon\". Did some 1 on 1 training and lost badly, because I'm so tired.

*Bump for 4/28/2010 WNFC*
I've only had one single suggestion for WNFC this week:
Something nostalgic: Worlds Apart CTF!

P.S. Yes, I hear the groans. If you don't like it, give me a better suggestion for next week.

How about some fierce instareap. That mod pretty much levels the playing field and is a blast to play.

I actually was going to suggest Instareap or Team Instareap. What is fierce Instareap?

How about some wolf's den or d-day?
maybe some athena, or koors, kata 2
Something that hasn't been overplayed, and yet is still fun

My fault - I didn't check the team names, which had been set too long (over 12 characters). It's fixed for next week.

As a former Descent Ranger, I spent many a wasted hour in both. Every now and then I like to throw D-Day out there. WD is a little more rare. And perhaps a little closer to my heart. I miss Wolf and the gang, some days...
Sadly, no one ever ported Wolf's Den 3 (made with his brother Verran, IIRC), my favorite in the series. Someone should.

hm. I just found it
HERE << That's a direct link to the file. My offer still stands if you like.
Notice that Neptune was ported. I was given a resounding NO! when I requested to port this level. I was also told that it was not to become a D3 level. oh well.
