What if God really did tell him to kill you?

I don't pretend to have insight into the divine mind. I wrestle with the concept of god every day.

I do know I'd kill anyone who tried to kill me...even if I believed god really told him to do it.

If god is so petty to require I be a good islamikazi or die then maybe he better come kill me himself or send a better assassin.

rational man: 'you know what? screw you.'

this war that is currently raging is religion based. they attack us because of their religion. that alone makes this a religious war. we could all be atheist or agnostic or what have you. its still a religious war as long as we are fighting people who kill us because the qu'ran says to.

and i said "leading cause of war" you know, like they say cigarettes are a leading cause of cancer? fast food is a leading cause of obesity? its not the only thing that has ever started a war, but its damned near if not at the top. alot of people seem to be getting defensive as if i said wars are all caused by religion. jesus causes wars!! thats simply not true and nobody here said that. although if you want to get technical, alot of people believe everything that happens happens because god wants it to, so all wars are religion based? i don't buy that, but it would be interesting to see someone of that mindset argue that religion doesn't cause war.

alot of them have been, way way way way too many if you ask me - especially considering most religions teach peace and loving thy neighbor.

a few off the top of my head for people who scream that all of the wars they can think of had nothing to do with religion. the massacre at vassy, the st. bartholomew's day massacre, both started religious wars. war of the three henries. the crusades. the inquisition. witch trials in both america and europe (many people dies over religion, close enough to a war for me). the holocaust (it was a war on jews?). the ethnic cleansing in yugoslavia (much like the jewish holocaust). it can also be argued rather well that the american revolution was a religious war. why was america founded? religious persecution in england. why did we fight them? to escape their rule and the fear religious persecution making a comeback. if it isn't the cause of that war, its a leading cause. 30 years war in germany? 8 million deaths they say? wow? religion caused that? wow?

we can all agree on one thing though, wars are bad.

greed, politics, power, and religion among other things are all leading causes. i personally believe religion above all else since the original war happened oh so many years ago, but i'm not about to rack my brain to look up a ton of support for that belief. i've seen enough body counts from religious wars to not even want to go down that road.

Fair enough.
