I just replaced my Logitech ball mouse with a new Logitech G700. The old ball mouse is like 15 years old. I have two of them and they both still work fine and I still like them just fine for gaming. Why did I get a new mouse? I wanted something with more buttons for ARMA. The G700 delivers on that. But, it's larger slider pads have more sticktion to the mouse pad which is pretty anoying. My old mice still have all their pads in tact if you can believe that.

I also still have all my old 3DPro's and have been using one of them to fly helicopters in ARMA. I just like the feel of the 3DPro.

So months later --

-- D3 doesn't load mn3 files for me so I guess I can only play single player
-- I can't remember how to invert up/down in d3 so I am noobified and can't play

-- d1x rebirth mouse is totally wrecked by seemingly non mouse using coders

very sad
is d2 any better? Maybe thats what I need to try to play.

You mean you've put them to C:\GAMES\Descent3\missions but they are not recognized? Might need to patch to Version 1.4 then,
Or do you mean download? In this case get Vortex from www.slyclan.de, open the serverlist, and go.

Next option would be to register with www.dateiliste.de and download the D3 pack.

You can invert axis by Options - Controls - joy/mouse - click the "?" symbol left hand to any axis to invert.

The D3 I can't remember who I got it from. Its all installed 1.4 with nocdpatch, black pyro, etc.
Yes the missions are in the D3 missions folder, it looks like it should work but it can't. Try "New Game" and it says Error something Can't open MN3 file - Line 0

The mouse I don't think can be solved other than installing XP again and installing d1x.
The d3 I did "play" although the up/down axis are reversed (how do i change this? wtf Im a noob) the mouse felt more like it used to so I'm more hopeful to play D3.

Anyone that wants to send me D2 or help me out come IM me. I just want to play SOME KIND OF DESCENT and have it be fun

Backup / move your recently installed (or all) missions, there must be a borked one among them.

The D2 version also uses SDL for input... I'd wager the same problems will show up there... think I had to deal with it from the Windows mouse sensitivity side as well as in-game. Using a high-DPI mouse (G700) to get the precision back.

talk to Zico about the mouse issues. you know better than the rest of us at how a mouse is supposed to handle in the game. He'd appreciate your input.

Hey Birdseye. Glad to see you still messing with Descent. I hope you got some of the mouse stuff worked out.

FYI, my Logitech G700 mouse I mentioned above - I said the pads have more stiction so it doesn't slide as well. After a couple months, the mouse pad has "polished" the pads enough now that it slides real nice now.

I'd check permissions on the missions folder.

Do not install D3 in C:\Program Files\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\. The default C:\Games\Descent3\ should work best for most people.

Let me guess... doesn't handle spaces too well.

No, I'm pretty sure D3 handles spaces in its path just fine, but may not handle how windows vista/7/8.x handle permissions or virtual storage folders which can happen when something is installed in Program Files.

Ah... yes, it does do that. Works for most programs, not for all.

Bro, the mouse control is much better, all you'll need now is a mouseman until we can find some more wingman mice.
