So what you are saying is...in spite of your young friends being pushed into higher education they find all that schooling is not landing them a 100k a year job like they are entitled to? Perhaps they would of been further ahead becoming a plumber or a carpenter.
And while I am at it, the unions are failing in another arena and failing catastrophically. While the union dole out billions to get Democrats elected I guess the union leadership is not bright enough to understand that all those open boarder/grant them amnesty Democrats are stealing jobs away from union tradesmen. Look and see how the Mexicans who snuck into this country illegally stole away even the higher wage jobs in the construction trades down south. All the while the Democrat spin machine keeps pouring out the illegals are only taking jobs that nobody wants mantra. Perhaps if the union bosses worried about their members instead of sucking up to a party that is helping them loose membership, the unions might gain back members.

actually, no......I know no one's child who feels they deserve 100K right out of school(well, maybe those with MBAs in finance, but the rest, no). It's just that corporate jobs, while pretty easy to land for one with decent schooling, don't offer the levels of vacation, retirement packages, health benefits or disability benefits that similar jobs did 20 years ago. Why? Because of the falling clout of organized labor, who established those norms. It's both odd and faintly nauseating to read rants like yours hinting that 'pushing' for youth to get a college degree is somehow wrong. Anyone espousing that idea is a flat-out idiot, with no longview of the current world economy.woodchip wrote:So what you are saying is...in spite of your young friends being pushed into higher education they find all that schooling is not landing them a 100k a year job like they are entitled to? an issue which pales compared to Republican tax policies that actually encouraged businesses to push manufacturing overseas. Bottom line is that both parties reflect a trend which has weakened unions, although, the immigrant workforce, were they simply allowed to become citizens, would be a vast pool for organization. And while I am at it, the unions are failing in another arena and failing catastrophically. Would those tax policies be a path to avoid higher taxes that democrats put in place? Seems like the way you phrased it leaves your party out of the calculation....callmeslick wrote:..

Dont forget they also represent a vast pool to harvest democrat votes every election day.callmeslick wrote:Bottom line is that both parties reflect a trend which has weakened unions, although, the immigrant workforce, were they simply allowed to become citizens, would be a vast pool for organization.

I thought Republicans were for lower taxes on corporations and corporate welfare and all like that.callmeslick wrote:an issue which pales compared to Republican tax policies that actually encouraged businesses to push manufacturing overseas.
Seems counter intuitive to your point.

None taken. I'm in the midst of work on a degree which my employer is paying for. Since I started, the management (IMO) has gone downhill, and they haven't given me appropriate financial compensation for some big jumps in what is expected of me. I'm in a contract with them where I'll liable for the entire cost of the schooling they've paid for if I leave within the next couple years.Sergeant Thorne wrote:What kind of a person are we talking about saving from the evil employers who jump over a dime to save the pennies and beg for the good workers to leave? Is the average worker really so stupid and lazy? Has it always been like that? Isn't the answer just to wise up? Why doesn't that answer satisfy this field of inquiry? (a couple of stupid questions in there, I'm sure, but I ask them anyway)
At the same time, I have wised up - I'm looking for opportunities and expect to command enough of a raise to make back the cost of my liability by the time that I would have been released from my obligations to them - that is if a new employer isn't willing to cover the liability themselves.... Now I just need someone to be willing to give me an interview...
