Daydreams, daydreams... I'll give you an example. You know, I served in army. The Russian army has a tradition of flout, humiliate and beat new soldiers. Over time after this "therapy", soldier ceases to feel pain and loses the sense of fear. Russia has already experienced so much suffering and aggression from the West that Russian impossible to scare.
I'm talking about relative population numbers sigma. The populations of India and China dwarf Russia's. Russia could be overrun just by shear the force of number.

Russia's Far East have a lot of Chinese. They try to live and work in national communities. But in any case, if the Chinese do not want to be assimilated to the Russian, he will feel a subconscious mistrust of the local population. Perhaps it can be compared with the Japanese term 外国人 ("alien", "foreigner"). They are forced to Russified, although they did not sign the oath of allegiance, as it happens in the United States.

That Japanese term in English is called "Gaijin". You Russians sound just like the xenophobic conservatives in the U.S. They constantly tell immigrants to conform to our "American" ways and language or if they don't like that, just leave the country and live someplace else. Not very hospitable to other people's nationalities and customs is it?

It’s always been like that, and it’s not just conservatives, that believe people should assimilate.

Anybody with a clear head knows that it is better for the country to become part of the “melting pot” then to act like it’s some damn refugee camp.

But a "melting pot" infers that the main national society has also soaked up some of their new immigrant's culture too. It works both ways, we just don't ever realize it's happened. A lot of those other culture's customs have become some of OUR customs over time. That's what makes us strong. We're not an extension of white Europe anymore. We have our own unique identity.

This is called globalization. In Russia there is all exactly the same. US is multi-ethnic and multi-religious empire as well as Russia. Just the population of Russia defends the interests of the Russian flag, while the US population defends the American flag. Although in fact, the population of our countries is almost the same.
