Re: October surprise?
Will has appeared for decades on the editorial pages of the Washington Post. I reprinted that one line for this week's piece as the Post, which copyright or subscription policy would not let me link to the whole article. Will has been, over the years I've read him, a proponent of a certain conservative viewpoint that at the very least is informed by facts(whether one buys his conclusions or not). In many ways he has always struck me as the modern heir of William F Buckley's position among Conservative thinkers(yes, they do exist). He has been appalled at the embrace of Trump by the party(not by the primary electorate, whom he views as uninformed/misinformed).

Did he, anywhere in the article, cast a critical eye on himself or those in his profession in the context of why voters have chosen Trump? Or is he going with a "virgin birth" angle? If he thinks these voters are misinformed, does he ever attempt to bridge the gap between that and his own profession?
I feel like Thunderbunny brow-beating muslims for standing by and watching the crazy grow. That irony isn't completely lost on me.

well, he has been of the opinion for years that the party(which he quit in August) had embraced an ideology that wasn't in any way conservative, and mostly based on stoking fears. He did touch on the Conservative media, but like most critics, left himself out of that loop, which largely is(writes for a major journal, but the newspaper he works for and the mass release magazine(Newsweek) aren't exactly 'conservative' media outlets)accurate. Frankly, I can blame the media and the creation of a culture of 'celebrity' for why Trump is even known to his base, but don't really see the media as responsible for his success in winning the voters in his core base.Vander wrote:Did he, anywhere in the article, cast a critical eye on himself or those in his profession in the context of why voters have chosen Trump? Not quite apples to apples and you know it. I would contend in a general sense that government corruption should be very very high on law enforcement's list in any country.callmeslick wrote:and, that would infer this to be the foremost criminal issue facing the nation. Pathetic. No doubt, you will be so charitable when she demands 20 years of IRS audits be fast-tracked,because that's the executive's prerogative, right?

Natio comoeda est. Juvenal used this expression to describe the period of decline of the Greeks.
Just by the way.
