Or, if the car companies are thinking, they'd have a tech ready to go to your home whenever that happens.

Also it could end up being a situation like what farmers are having to deal with today, where they can no longer perform any repairs or service on their own John Deere tractors and instead have to wait for days and pay a small fortune for an authorized service tech to come out to do simple repairs. Because John Deere locked down the software of their tractors and sues anyone for attempting non-dealership authorized repairs by using an anti-piracy clause in the DMCA. The farmers end up taking huge losses as a result of the excessive downtime because they aren't allowed to fix it themselves even if they know how and legally own the tractor.

So yeah, it isn't really the criminals you have to worry about.

Oh and speaking of John Deere, farmers are using firmware from Ukraine (I think) to re-flash their tractors in order to get on with their day.

I don't know where to split this one if it COULD be split. I started out with my road rage-deaths-to-terrorist-deaths comparison and you made the comment about self-driving cars can't come soon enough and I made the comment about cars that can be hacked perhaps causing deaths and slick made the comment about automobile coders being liberals and Muslims creating driverless coffins and Spidey made the comment about nutbags hacking 50 thousand cars and killing thousands and then it all went south into a John-Deere-owners-can't-fix-their-own-tractors territory a big fat hurry courtesy of you and Ferno.
